I wanted to get into throwing tomahawks, so I shortened the handle on my pipe hawk to a little over 18 inches- the length from my clenched knuckle to my elbow. The leather helve-mask I'd made for this hawk looked way disproportionate, so I sewed up a non-stick reptile-print leather handle on the one end, and wrapped a bit of red suede under the head. The three-diamond carving was a bit of an impulse, taken from the Assassins Creed III tomahawk. I can handle her a lot easier now, she fits into my travel bag, she STILL chops wood like a champ, and she's damn stylish, too. She is mine, and I shall call her Hawky, and she shall be MY hawky!

That's a good looking Hawk you really did a nice job on your Hawky, congrats. I've also been bit'in by the hawk bug lately.
I've been looking at two hawks longhunter although i have'nt had the opportunity to handle one yet.

DayGlo_Koolaid,

I just getting in to TomaHawk Throwing, That is a mighty nice Hawk you have there. I was wondering were you purchased it from? I am looking for a Hawk in that style.

Thanks

I thought it was a modified Cold Steel Pipe Hawk, isn't it? And a nice one at that!

Great looking hawk. They are a lot of fun to modify and even more fun to actually use.

Call me Sam. She's a modified CS pipehawk. I cut the hickory handle down to 18 inches (Bout the length from my elbow to my knuckles) and took a torch to the wood. Sanded that bugger down to a glass finish, inscribed the three diamonds with a pocketknife, and sewed the leather up by hand. I also did the usual Cold Steel mods: Sanded the ugly finish off the head, sanded the inside of the head smooth, made the stick fit a bit better, removed the grub screw, etc. Beware throwing the pipe hawks, though; they're topheavy, and they have a tendency to throw rather like Thor's hammer. More wrist action involved than, say, a frontier hawk.

*Shameless Plug*
I'm seriously considering going into business modding these hawks, then working my smithing skills up to make my own heads. PM me and we might be able to work something out, if you're interested- For 5 bucks and the cost of shipping, I'd be happy to send you the leather and stitchin' materials to lay your own hawk up like this one. That leather grip really comes in nice for throwing, but it DOES tend to shimmy itself down a bit with heavy chopping.

Nice job on "Hawky". I really like the leather look on it.

I just bought my first hawk a couple weeks ago. Same models as your's. I got it mainly for camping and to keep in the truck GHB. Thos ethings are super useful. The hammer head is the reason I got a hawk in the first place. I've been trying to figure out a cover for the handle, had been considering lacing it with 550 cord, but not sure that's the route I want to go.
