    CRKT Otanashi Noh Ken

I've been eyeing the Otanashi designed by James Williams for quite some time, and being that it has been favorably reviewed by many, decided to purchase one when I saw it being offered for about $70.00 plus $15.00 shipping to Italy. The seller was based in Canada, and the knife made it through...

Where can I send out titanium scales for custom CNC texturizing

Thank you very much for your responses. Any of the below CNC machining designs would be amazing... The knife has borrowed some of its design from Japanese knives, so the last photo's "wave design" would be favored if it's not too difficult to achieve. I'd be willing to spend $500, and...

Will look into it. Thanks! If you have any contacts for work I can have done here in Europe, please let me know.

Where can I send out titanium scales for custom CNC texturizing

Thanks again Chris for your input and for the links. John Grimsmo is a wizard with the CNC machine! I found his video before I started this thread. I then researched his name, and discovered that he's a knifemaker. Most knifemakers aren't comfortable with making parts for Others...

Where can I send out titanium scales for custom CNC texturizing

Hi Chris, and thanks for your input. Yes, it might indeed look like an afterthought if not done by the maker. I have somneone who can engrave the handles, but the cost is very high. I might go with it anyway. I like Lee Williams' work. I'm going to look into it. Thanks again!

Where can I send out titanium scales for custom CNC texturizing

After looking at Rick Hinderer's offerings, I am not going to be content with bead blasted or smooth 6/4 titanium scales on a custom folder being made for me in Italy. :grumpy: I would really appreciate it if someone could link me up with a "CNC artist" who can either texturize my scales with...

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

Hey TILLER, I met up with Alessandro Cosmai, who is an Italian knifemaker. He said the gray G-10 scales will turn black with the final buffing, and will use WD-40 if needed. I guess it's a well known procedure amongst the pros. He was also impressed with the extreme bite of the grips, and...

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

Don't know Matt. Maybe TILLER can step in and answer the question.

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

Thanks for your post. My knifemaker is going to have to figure out the same solution for drilling the scales!

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

What you see in the photo IS the black set. :) TILLER explains in his post that it's the machining that turned the exposed G-10 gray. I'll be sure to have the knifemaker buff the handle with WD-10 to get em' as dark as possible.

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

Yes, I agree. Smoothing it down a bit will allow the knjfe to be held very firmly yet comfortably, and there'll be plenty of grip left. Thanks!

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

Thanks, Matt. I'm having an Italian knifemaker make me a custom, and really like the textured pattern on these. I wet the scales, and they became a very dark gray immediately. I imagine WD-40 will make them even darker. If they come out jet black the knife will look great; if only a dark...

"Pyramidal Textured" G-10 Scales Purchased From Jantz

I just received a pair of the contoured pyramid textured scales from Jantz seen below. The grip on these babies will be incredible. Have anyone used these scales, and was it necessary to "tame down" the grip a bit with sandpaper? I ordered BLACK grips, and they are obviously gray, not...

    New Steels vs San Mai

What Cold Steel (and we) need is a Super San Mai, which might be a 440J stainless sandwich and a V3 core. One step further toward unobtanium... :D

    New Steels vs San Mai

There's one metal that out performs them all, including Nathan the Mechanic's alchemy with 3V, and that's unobtainium. :D Even if CS is not benefitting from Nathan's heat treatment, any CS product in 3V will have outstanding performance.

    Kobun sheath help

You've found a good solution to secure the sheath to your boot. For self defense and general carry purposes, however, I agree 100% with Mike that there's nothing better than an IWB rig. With practice, you'll be able to take the knife out when needed in less than a heatbeat, and it...

    Tai Pan Lite?

Technically it might be lighter with the molded handle and absence of the guard, bolster and even pommel. Being that I consider the Tai Pan's blade to be just about perfect, I interpreted "Lite" as being so on the wallet. :) It probably wouldn't be a good business move, and that's why there's...

    New Steels vs San Mai

It would be an interesting test. :) I would place my bets on the San Mai III's superior flexibility. I don't think a gorilla would be able to break either the 3V or the San Mai version unless he was bending it back and forth to failure while it was secured in a vise.
