Identifying hardwoods, US and Foreign. For knife handle scales.

Hello all, It's been a long time. I have recently acquired a quantity of hardwood pieces of various lengths and sizes. All the wood is already cut, my problem is I can only tell the wood species from either stickers or hand written. An example would be; purple heart, Brazilian kingwood, Leopard...

My new to me cat pee Boker Classic 2004

Hello, I am new to the Boker forum but have been around awhile. I have a friend with a buy, sell, trade store in Pa and have found many great knives in thrift store shopping. I went into his store and looked around and he asked me if I could smell cat pee coming from an open plastic bag. I said...

Photos Pic Heavy-Need opinions is this knife damascus or BS damascus

I was curious so first I sharpened it, it slices paper and shaves hair. Then I tried the brass rod test and it flexed and returned true. So I don't know what to say.

PICS of Western W49 with single # on end of guard?

Thanks, I only have 1 other Western Bowie and it's a second version. I found it and it was missing the guard and the tang was broken or cut off leaving only about 3 inches. So I replaced the guard with deer antler piece and a cut off hatchet handle for the handle. I also have the original sheath...

PICS of Western W49 with single # on end of guard?

I just obtained this W49 and I searched the threads and used google foo in the hopes it wasn't a fake. It is suggested from my searches that it should be a version #8. What I find really curious is the #2 on the end of the downward facing guard.

Goodwill Sebenza 25 returned from spa!

Thanks, it still amazes me that I got it from Goodwill and that CRK authenticated it and the spa service and replacement parts.

Goodwill Sebenza 25 returned from spa!

Finally got my Sebenza 25 back from CRK, they did the entire spa treatment, replaced the pivot screws and added a lanyard. Great customer service policy and the 2 month wait was worth it. I asked for the knife to be restored to original and they also returned it in the small box at my request.

    Goodwill store R.E.K.A.T Pocket Hobbit!

Well I took the pocket hobbit apart, it used 5/64 allen screws for the whole knife too include the pivot screw. I needed cleaning but wasn't that bad but it had tight tolerances. Surprised it had teflon washers and the locking bar has a flat side that must be turned just right or the blade will...

    Reprofile or wrong angle?

I appreciate all the suggestions and I have contacted a local knife maker to sharpen it for me. He is a BF member and only lives a few minutes from me.

    Reprofile or wrong angle?

Thanks for responding, the steel is ats34 and though new to me it's 20 years old. It's a rekat pocket hobbit and dull as dishwater.

    Reprofile or wrong angle?

I mainly use a sharpmaker for upkeep on my knives and a lansky regular set to reprofile as needed. My question is by using the black sharpie method I find on one side the 20 degree is cleanly removing the marker but on the other side it is only hitting on the very edge. Do I need to change the...

    Goodwill store R.E.K.A.T Pocket Hobbit!

From what I was told by my local Goodwill anytime a knife of any type comes in they're immediately given to a "security person" and then sent into the states main Goodwill store. The knives are offered on the web site which incorporates I believe all the lower 48 states. I have won auctions from...

    Goodwill store R.E.K.A.T Pocket Hobbit!

I posted about two weeks ago about a Sebenza 25 on shopgoodwill.com if you wanna check that post. It just takes consistent monitoring of the site, search the keywords knife, knives or pocket knives and you will see the hundreds of different knives they have to offer. I just happened to look at...
