That's a beauty. Looks like you got some stuff figured out between #1 and #8.

First attempt at knifemaking - limited tools - please advise!

Let us know how your progress goes. I am a basic-tool maker too, working on knife #4. I couldn't agree with The Count more with his advice. At this point, I am looking at smaller, thinner knives to get the basic processes down even though knife #3 was much more complex. Best of luck.

    My second completed knife

Can't say anymore than what's already been said. Beautiful knife, very well crafted. Congratulations on such a fine second knife.

First knife, Bit off more than I can file? Nahhhh

Excellent job!! That's a very nice knife. Beautiful handle and I really like the design. I am still working with hand files and the progress is very slow. If you have problems with sanding the plunges you could try a small round file or chainsaw file to establish the plunge. I find the plunge...

My Bladesmith Progression; from 1st to....

I am a new maker as well, so I will not try to give technical advice only encouragement and a couple of thoughts. You have made a nice effort. I think your next knives will be leaps and bounds over this one based on adhering to the advice already given. I find myself like many with a pile of...

What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

This is a sheath I recently finished for my first client. He loved it. The knife is a production piece he bought, but he did not care for the sheath that came with it. [/IMG]

My third knife....I gave it away

I gave this knife to my friend the other night. He was shocked and very appreciative. He loves the knife. He took it to work to show his coworkers and though the feedback was very good, I felt a little self conscious. This is the first knife I have given away and I realized that my knives could...

Newbie bought 1095. Need advice on quench. Probably beating a dead horse... sorry.

Andy, There is some good info from several members in this thread. I am new to knifemaking as well with only a few blades behind me. In my limited experience, get the 1084 as it will only cost a few bucks and you will make a knife with a good blade using simple tools. You will not need to...

The knives look good. Are you draw filing these or do you use a jig? If you are draw filing, you are making quick work of those. I might be doing something wrong

Do you like or hate this homemade "micarta"?

I am not a huge fan of the burlap micarta but it looks just fine from here. If I had a preference, it would be the green.

    How

I have free hand sketched my very few knives. I draw what I like and sometimes it translates into a knife that I like but I keep almost all of my sketches, complete or not. I have some where I like the whole thing and others where I only like certain aspects. Graph paper helps to keep...

My third knife....I gave it away

Thank you Nick. Like many here I am a huge fan of your work and I truly appreciate your efforts in teaching your methods. But honestly, if I made 100 knives I'd be a 100 years old at the rate it took me to build this knife. Lol.

My third knife....I gave it away

Yeah Man!! Come on over! I'll break out the hand files and we can grind out a few thousands of an inch in a night. Lol. Probably get tired and drink too much beer. Seriously though, we'll get it together soon. It'd be great to hang out.
