    You guys use shemaghs?

So glad to hear you like it! I’m in no way affiliated with them, but I’ll use their products as long as I live because they’re so damn good! I have multiple sizes and colors and still want more. I keep one of their hand-kerchiefs in my satchel as part of my edc that’s always with me.

    One essential piece of gear

I don’t want to derail my own thread, but I have a couple of these and love them. I found that the o-rings work really well, but if you REALLY want it to be sealed up good, put a Ranger band around the outside. Pictured here. I also put a small zip-tie around the band to keep it from shifting...

    One essential piece of gear

No doubt! I keep Mylar blankets (enough for each seat in the vehicle) in our Subarus. I want to upgrade them to the Mylar emergency bivy sacks.

    One essential piece of gear

Agree with this, but it’s not quite in the realm of EDC gear that I’m trying to feel out. ;-)

    You guys use shemaghs?

For something shemagh sized that doesn’t have the traditional shemagh look, I highly recommend the kerchiefs from North x North Co. They’re merino wool and function identical while performing better due to material.

    One essential piece of gear

I agree. The ability to start a fire can quite literally be the difference between life and death. I plan to carry a selection of pocket-sized fire-starting implements.

    One essential piece of gear

My bags have bags. Lol! I find them too convenient to be able to reach in my satchel and pull out the one I need, whether it’s power cords and extra batteries, meds, or a small toolkit.

    One essential piece of gear

Hmm. Carrying bags/packs in my proposed inventory wasn’t something I’d considered. I may have to add satchels, cross-body sling bags, and backpacks to my list. I’m a bag junkie myself, and have several brands in my personal stash that would be great to carry: GoRuck, Maxpedition, Tuff Possum...

    One essential piece of gear

Seeing a lot of flashlight variants/makers. That’s good intel. I would like to carry some hats/beanies as I’m rarely outdoors without one. I’ll have to look for some makers.

    You guys use shemaghs?

I’m high-risk for melanoma, so I’m long-sleeves and pants year-round. I’ve switched to merino wool because it’s got better sun/UV protection than just cotton.

    One essential piece of gear

MAGNIFYING GLASS! I was wondering if anyone else carried one. My carry SAK (an Explorer) has a mag glass that I use multiple times a week, if not daily. Good call.

    One essential piece of gear

My goal is a general survey of what should be “knife people” to see what EDC item that isn’t one of the ones mentioned they consider important enough to carry with them. I’m looking at opening a brick and mortar store that is predominantly a knife shop, but will carry EDC gear as well.

    One essential piece of gear

Ok, I probably should have been a little more specific. Guns, phones, and knives are not what I’m looking for. I’m looking items you carry that aren’t these.

    Anyone tried a Foreverspin Top?

I own four of them: Tungsten, Titanium, Silver, and a mystery metal one. They’re a lot of fun for a classic top shape. The tungsten one spins FOREVER if you use good technique.

    One essential piece of gear

I’m curious: what is one essential piece of gear (that is not a knife) you carry as part of your EDC? Who makes it?

    You guys use shemaghs?

I’ve got several I used to use all the time, but I’ve since replaced them with merino wool kerchiefs from NorthxNorth. Same purpose, better functionality in my experience.

    Any Original Soldiers around?

It’s not as old as what you’re looking for, but my birth year (‘81) Soldier has that sharpened chisel-style edge on the inside of the bottle opener. It’s kind of hard to see in this picture, though.

What multitool or SAK did you buy today

Just got this one in the mail today. German Army Knife from ‘85 or ‘86 made by Victorinox. It’s the “GAK2” that I’m being told because it’s got the nail file on the saw blade. I got lucky that this one still had its sheath and saw guard.

    RMJ Shrike S13

When I go on day hikes where I’m typically only carrying a satchel, I have carried my full size Shrike with its sling pulled high/tight under my strong side armpit. Sometimes I’ll loosen it a tad and tuck the bottom of the haft behind the strap on my satchel. Pardon the ass shot, but it’s the...
