"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Well- the good news is, soon you won’t have to wear a mask while waiting in line for gas.

    Photos A Walk in Nature

I saw this while out on a walk in December and posted it in the “Lounge” thread specifically for you, and you never even noticed…😄

"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

This just occurred to me: Given my fondness for large, inexpensive knives, if you said I had “deep pockets” it would be true in the literal sense but not in the figurative sense.

    Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Wednesday: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/reasons-why-i-shouldn’t-get-a-svord-micro-peasant-with-titanium-scales.1789643/ Thursday: That was quick! No convincing arguments against it then, I guess…😂🤣😂

"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

My wife cuts my hair. It saves a lot of money, and she does a good job. I always tell her I don’t care what it looks like - she’s the one who has to look at it, not me. Also, the fact that she has to be seen with me in public is probably motivation enough to do it well.

What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

You left out the part about the bison. I clearly see a bison right there under the UFO.

    Any love for small Opinels?

Not an Opinel, but this little MAM rides on my keychain every day. I filed the tip a little to make it pokier, and it sees a fair amount of use opening packages and stuff (you can see I don’t even bother to clean the tape gunk off it). It has never opened in my pocket.

It’s like the IT guy at work says: “The problem appears to be somewhere between the chair and the keyboard” 😄

😄:thumbsup: Except the Black Cat is not my favorite… My favorite is the Okapi 907E ratchet knife - a case of the Germans ripping off the French, not a case of the French ripping off the Germans like the Douk Douk Squirrel there  Again - just joking. Don’t want any Douk Douk...

I stand corrected, then. Still, while very different in all those aspects you mentioned, to me the design looks inspired by the Black Cat sort of in the way modern traditionals draw on older patterns, or new Minis or Beetles draw inspiration from the older models, while being entirely different...

The overall shape of the Boker, the folded metal handle, and the exposed spring where the K55K lock release is seem to me to be intentionally evocative of the Mercator, though.

"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

My wife’s new car has the fob. It works great for her because she can just leave it in her purse. With the push-button operated starter and door locks there is never a reason to take it out. If I ever have to drive her car, I put the fob all by itself in my left front pocket (which is usually...

"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

The Czech town of Mikulasovice appears to link these 2 makers of traditional knives: https://www.mikov.cz/o-nas/?lang=en https://grohmannknives.com/index.php/about/the-grohmann-story Not trying to be a downer - there is some pretty grim history alluded to here - but I found the connection...

"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

That is exactly how I deal with most “upgrades”... I have developed a very efficient workflow over the years, and I want software to support me achieving and possibly improving that efficiency. I don’t want to have modify my workflow just because some software developer suddenly decides that I...

    Photos A Walk in Nature

Apparently box turtles have a homing instinct, but given that they can only travel about 50 yards a day, I suppose they would make a poor substitute for pigeons... I see them occasionally in the wild. Once when camping with youngest daughter, we saw one laying eggs. Unrelated picture from a...

    Favorite traditional pattern

Good to know I’m not the only one left clueless by these discussions. I tend to tune out completely once talk turns to GECs and model numbers. My favorite, by the way - the 907E 😁

    Photos A Walk in Nature

Overlooking the Potomac. Not the greatest shot, but this was the first time I deliberately staged a photo with the intent of posting it here. And to answer your question: walking, bicycling, and some camping these days. I did tons of hiking, boating, and fishing in my youth, but not anymore. I...
