Whatcha got on order? (Traditional Knives Only)

The incomparable Tom Krein sent me photos of this just-completed knife on Friday. Its sheath still needs to be made before it starts making its way to me, but I hope to have it in-hand soon.

Why is the Swiss Army classic, a "classic"?

There is a Classic on every keyring in my home. Largely for the scissors.

Knives you want but can't obtain.

They have never made such a model. Because of its thickness you'll always find the inline Phillips driver paired with another thick tool: almost always the magnifying lens or LED light. A model such as you describe would be relatively easy to make, but there would be nothing opposing the...

The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2021 forum knife possibility discussion thread

While I would probably vote for Smooth Ivory Bone, I certainly wouldn’t object to Appaloosa. My meager photography skills can’t capture the beauty of this material “in-person.”

I always associate sawcut bone with Barlows, so in my opinion this would be most traditional. With that said, I do love smooth ivory bone.

Which thumb nail do you use to open your slip-joint?

“Slippy” bothers me much more than it probably should.

The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2021 forum knife possibility discussion thread

This annual thread never ceases to both amaze and disappoint me, as one of the nicest places on the Internet suddenly turns a bit dark. Sincere thanks to Charlie for his efforts in making this happen, and thanks to all the volunteers who've graciously volunteered their time and energy despite...

    Victorinox FOLDING paring knife?

Apologies for the delayed response. I eagerly awaited the release of this knife, and I purchased one as soon as they became available. It is an excellent "picnic knife," and it functions as superbly as you'd expect for a Victorinox paring knife. There are only two downsides: the rounded...

Which thumb nail do you use to open your slip-joint?

Hand to heart, I had no idea so many people opened knives with their dominant thumb. People are weird. ;)

Hear! Hear! While I can sympathize with those who greatly prefer (or greatly dislike) this or that feature, the way the knife market in general (and the market for GECs in particular) has been lately, the fact that this is even a possibility is a very pleasant surprise. I, too, hope our...

That is very good news indeed. To date there hasn’t been a forum knife that has tickled my fancy, but that one... That’s one I could certainly go for.

    Favorite traditionals

This is something of a difficult question to me. I have two favorite patterns. First, Victorinox’s 93mm Alox, the Pioneer in particular: Second, the “boys knife” pattern, 3 to 3-1/2” single-blade jacks: Do I really have to choose? ;)
