    Hydrating wood?

Georgia, his family has a peanut business. The desk still looks good no matter who's been behind it since then fwiw.

Wow there's been some changes here...and questions!

Never part with them, agreed. Plenty of time for it to rest when I'm dead :p. What kind of leather madness are you thinking up?

    Hydrating wood?

Linseed is good, I also use coconut oil and it's also fantastic. FWIW, with no politics involved, former President Carter polished the desk in the oval office with peanut oil on a regular basis.

    Sorocabana maker information

Sure has been a while Ivan, the pic that you posted is a good looking one for sure. The sheath on mine is now drying out, and the sheath to the one you posted is good looking. Does he do sheaths only as well?

    Sorocabana maker information

I have a sorocabana made by a A. Lopes, Tatui, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Other than that basic info I can't dig up anything else. Does anyone have any information on this guy or is he primarily a local maker?

I had one of these when they were first done up, I gave it as a gift. It is a hell of a beast.

Wow there's been some changes here...and questions!

I hit it with oil, a mix of mineral oil and coconut, and it looks sweet. If I sharpen this thing down to the spine in my lifetime I've done something wrong.

Thanks all, I'll just keep it as is, as long as no bright red rust develops. Stories and a journey indeed.

Wow there's been some changes here...and questions!

Man Esav, I remember you, as long as the change is mostly for the better we can all manage right? That's what it is. I've had buddies whip out tomahawks and I whip this out and everyone played with it until something else came along. No throwing, but a lot of firewood chopping. I forgot...

Wow there's been some changes here...and questions!

It's been a while since I popped in to this forum since I went in the Army, decided that since it was my birthday I'd see if blemishes and deals were up for sale like they used to be. While looking around it seems like it's still the same place from 2005. Sad to see some former familiar faces...

    Cargo Pants.

Maybe it's just me, but since you're on a military path.... If you're one of those guys who's legs friggin grow like crazy when you do practice rucking or when you sprint and run alot, 5.11's are gonna be kinda snug. I was never a tight fitting pants type guy. I have some Columbia made ones...

    Jungle Boots

Excellent stuff right there! I've had luck with the Thorlo's you can find just about anywhere, but Smartwool is the name I keep hearing. Sorry about the thread drift, but whatever you do & whatever you buy, try and see if you can check the boots out in person. Some run narrower than others...

    Jungle Boots

Nothing bad about looking good when not in the field, just be sure you're able to put your money where your mouth is when you are. :D Don't forget the other important things about foot care. Neglect great insoles and socks, and regardless of what kind of boot you've got your feet will be...

    Jungle Boots

I know I'm in the minority, but I went to a surplus store and got a pair of Rothco boots for ~$20. The same kind of boots did one of the Sgt. I know well when he was in Iraq with no problem. I heard that the ACU type shiet will be out around Feb./Mar. so you won't be spending too much time...

HELP- What's REALLY practical for military use?

Warthog, Oh hell yea! Some people are natural kleptos though... I remember one guy that always seemed to have a TON of the IPFU Short sleeve T-Shirts in sizes small to large for some reason...

HELP- What's REALLY practical for military use?

Warthog brought up another point, unless you can lug it with you ALL the time and not check it in anywhere, remember two things: Reasonably cheap Easily replaceable Who really knows how many things get "borrowed"... I still like Striders. :D

HELP- What's REALLY practical for military use?

I've got an original Leatherman tool, a cheap $20 Gerber Profile that's slim and light, and a Strider GB folder. In order of overall usage: Leatherman Strider GB Cheap Gerber that's only seen the light of day when I play with it. I also have a new FS HAK that's pretty damn cool, I gotta...
