Hi guys,
I just got a ZT0300 blem from Kershawguy (thanks for the quick shipping!) and I did my best to find the blem.... the only thing I found was a tiny little nick on the flipper. But here's my problem: the lock engages at about 75% but when I wiggle the blade, it has just a touch of verticle play. It made me kinda nervous so I did a spine tap on a phonebook and it failed very easily. I took it apart and put it back together real tight, and it seemed to help, but I'm wondering if I just need to break it in further or if I should polish the lockbar or tang to make it engage better ... or is there anything else I should try?
When I grip it tight, there's no play at all since I'm gripping the lock tighter.
What do you guys think? I know there's no warranty on the blems. Anything I should try within reason? I don't want to eff it up!
Otherwise it's replaced my 0200 in my pocket!

Don't touch the lockbar because you will more than likely ruin your knife. Nt sure why or how polishing it would help matters.

Clean the lockbar and tang and see if that helps.

i've heard ZT would do lock adjustments even on blems, may just be a rumor but I have heard that it's worth a shot to call and see and offer to pay for their service since your knife is a blem.

Best thing you can do is leave it be and send it back to me for a replacement. Hey that was poetic :D

^^^^

And that's why Kershaw Guy has liberated a huge chunk of money from me since the end of last year.:-)

I have the same issue with my 0560. Everything else is okay, just a little bit of vertical blade play caused by the lock not quite staying put. Is this a flaw I should address to Kershaw??

If it were my knife I would just take the knife apart and bend the lock bar a little further over. Faster and easier than sending it anywhere.

Are you bummed with your blem?

Really the only way to avoid these problems is to buy the non-blem items that are backed by the warranty. I have bought a few blems myslef (thanks kershawguy), but only the less expensive models. And it's for this reason exactly. I just have to live with the very minor issues that my blems have.

mine locks up solid but the lockbar can flex downward which makes it seem like blade play, i am not worried and if it gets worse i'll send it in but if its not bad dont worry about it.

well My 0300 has been at about 75% lock up for a while and Ive batoned with it and done some stuff with my 0300 that would break other folders and fixed blades and its held up just fine

This knife so far has been the only knife I would trust with my life.

Its a bummer that your knife has a little play but hey all the more reason to used it.
