Hey guys. I'm working on a Morimoto Special with a 12" x 1 3/4" x 1/4" blade, and I'm wondering what kinds of problems I'm going to be facing with the heat treat. It's dead flat on the one side, and bevelled on the other (like all Japanese kitchen knives), and it needs to be differentially tempered...Of course, I'm going to need someone to do the heat-treat, but I'm already talking to a couple guys about it. They've never tried anything like this either, so I figured I'd just ask around.

Thanks all,

D.

As Peter said...........shouldn't be any problem. The big key is to ensure the blade has been normalized prior to hardening, which will prevent about 99% of warpage. Along with that, the edge should be left slightly thick (like 3/32") which will further prevent warping/deformation.
