Hi Guys,
I have 3 Factory Liners for the LL style 110, 2 are for me and 1 is for a friend. I've already made a Carbon Fiber 110 LL and this is the one now in progress. It may possibly become a gift for the man who gave them to me. I fitted a Snake River Knives DP Spanish Lace DP blade in place of the factory blade which I have to return. I am very torn since this will be a special knife, as to what to use for the scales. I am interested in what all you Buck fanatics may think a cool scale would be. I'm thinking some sort of exotic wood....
What do you guys think?
Thanks for your time

Jerad

110 liner lock. What do you guys think?

If it's a liner-lock--it's not a 110.

If it's some alien blade--it's not a 110.

The scales? I like KOA. Looks real good on 110s.

;)

Buck made liner lock 110's at the factory using this liner and this Nickle Silver frame. Is that knife not a 110? :)

Yes, you can call it a Buck if it has a Buck blade and your name is Buck and it's made in your factory with a forever warranty.

Not sure it's a 110, though.

:D

Fair enough.
I guess I (usually but not in this case) qualify for all but one of those :) My passion is driven by the same thing that drives yours. What if I legally changed my last name to Buck? Just kidding haha!

That's a good suggestion.

Since Elk is so abundant here, I have never had the urge to buy an expensive set of Sambar scales, but I suddenly do!

I think if the color was right it might play well against the nickel and the damascus

I'm thinking plenty of dark with some brown and a creamy color on the edges and matched as closely as
possible on each side

Yes agreed. Matching scales is a nice touch. It can be hard to find 2 similar pieces!

Yes,some nice barky sambar stag with the groove for the thumbstud would look awesome!I can't wait to see this 110 when its finished .Good stuff!

Thanks Razor. I dont have any Sambar and it is so expensive, what do you think about some knarly Elk? Its practically free around here in "The Elk Valley"

Hey Jerad, how deep of a solid layer does elk posses? That would give your creation a truly "local" flavor.
Also, if it's that abundant you would have a greater opportunity to select for character.

Hello sitflyer, not nearly as deep as Sambar, but it is easily reinforced by gouging the center, and applying epoxy, but first filling in the pores with a very thin superglue, making it rather strong. Sambar is truely superior though.
Leroy gave me this frame and liner, I suspect I'll be keeping this one, maybe I should use the small piece I have left, of the first Elk antler I found, that led me to all of this and make it truely sentimental :)

It would be nice to see you work with some traditional materials:thumbup:
I think you have a talent!

I finished it today. I chose two nice pieces of Cocobolo Leroy gave me. I was thinking elk, but I wanted the 3 NS scale pins (and pivot) as I'd never used the on a 110 yet, and this was kind of a "special project. I'll post pics tomorrow!

I picked a set of Cocoblos scales Leroy gave me. I think the dark scale idea was good, and this is what became of my special project.
