110 Sheath Question

Hi all, Would someone be so kind as to give me a quick rundown on the sheaths that are being shipped with the 110. I need to replace my 110 which I have lost (sheath and all) after 35 years of having it with me. I am seeing nylon at the big box store, and some national mail order places state it ships with a leather sheath. I'm in the sticks so I will probably order it and want to make sure I get leather, which I hope is still available. Thanks!

It's sold with both kinds, depending on the seller.

All you can do is buy from a reputable seller and confirm by phone exactly what you will get.

If I were you I'd go to e-Bay and buy the same vintage as the one I lost. You can probably get one in very good used condition for about the same as you'd pay for a current model and you'd basically have the same knife--with the "Forever Warranty" still intact if the knife has not been altered.

You can even sent it to Buck and for about $10 (including your shipping cost to them) they will make it look like new and sharpen it and send it back to you on their dime.

It would be like having your old knife again.

:)

Ya know.... I've been seriously thinking that same thing. There are some real beaters on there (worse than mine was) but it seems like a decent 74 to 80 vintage can be had for about 30.00, including shipping. That shiny one in the store sure was pretty though and at 35.00 an incredible value in my opinion. Real relieved to see they are still US made. I just couldn't deal with that nylon. Too new-school for me. Thanks for the info and your thoughts on this. Were I a weaker man I would probably need counseling to cope with my loss (and I'm only half-kidding!)

Walmarts and academy have the new 110's in clam packs and you can see if leather sheath or not. Academy was running them on sale last week for $25.

Bummer on your loss. Maybe it will show up.

I guess somebody should have mentioned that a lot of people here actually LIKE the Cordura sheaths because you can wash them and you can wear them horizontally as long as your belt is not too big for the horizontal slot.

It may be that there are some crappy thin "Nylon" sheaths being sold and this would not apply to them, but only to the good heavy Cordura.

Thanks guys. Walmart is where I looked and maybe the sheath was Cordura. I've read that many prefer the Cordura and should open my mind and give it another look. Don't have an academy handy but I appreciate the heads up. The
Walmart salesman told me they always have specials and special editions for Xmas. Any ideas when these hit?
Thanks for the thoughts Pack Rat. It's missing from my toolbox and I've searched hard for it. I've used it and left it on a bumper or something.

Should you get one with cordura, and don't like it, I will swap you a leather one for it. But like has been said, you can wear it both vertical and horizontal. But caution, some have had the snap come open if you drag it on something in the horizontal position.

If you do buy an unaltered used 110, I can vouch for Buck's Customer Service, mine was a little messed up and they put a whole new blade and backspacer in it and polished the bolsters. They were great about the whole thing.

I have my original 110 from the same period (about 1980), and a new one from Wal-Mart with the cordura sheath. I actually like the new knife more. The radiused handles are far more comfortable, and I like the cordura sheath for the washability.

I’ve ordered a new 110 the seller states ships with leather. If it shows up with cordura I’ll let ya know Pack Rat. I really appreciate the offer. I also think I’ll find a 70s vintage on the bay, so I can see for myself what Ed’s talking about. Thanks for your comments as well, Tyrone. I’ve a question to post on your thread. Appreciate all the input… it’s very helpful.
