I'm no Buck expert, but I picked up what appears to be a vintage 1974 - 1980 112 in pretty good shape, with sheath for $31 on ebay, about $36 shipped. I didn't expect to win it and still can't believe I did considering it got 171 looks and there were 17 bids.

Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6622424609&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

Could someone knowlegable tell me if I did as well as I think, or if I just did okay? Also, what steel is this made from? I'm hoping it's 440C.

Thanks so much,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Yes it is 440C and IMO you did good:thumbup:...these older 112s don't come around often and even less often in good condition, as yours appears to be. Enjoy your 112. Preston

 ...Hi LBG...You did good on that one, only one problem you're gonna have now...make lots of room for all the others that are gonna follow...They kinda "flock" ya know...   :D :p

Thanks you guys. If I'm not mistaken, the lack of a nail nick puts this knife in the 74 - 79 range, is that correct? Wasn't the nail nick added in 1980?

Thanks again,

Jim

...Yep...'74 to '80...The "nick" was added on the second version in '80 to '81 along with the addition of the 3rd dot...You got a nice one there LBG...I just picked up an '86 112 for $25 buckerino's myself...Was wanting an '87 but got carried away again...LOL...:D

Yes, according to my source, Blade's, the nail nick was added during the sixth (1980-81) version along with a third DOT (.112..)
Mike

:foot: ...Doesn't mean I'm right there Mike...I'm not familiar with that Version 6...Age tends to dull the memory ya know...LOL...:D

Don't worry......if it wasn't for that Blade's guide. I'd barely remember it was a knife. LMAO

It came a couple days ago. Awesome.

The handle is more square, i.e. has harder corners than the modern ones, so feels fuller in the hand.

Also, the blade is tighter than any modern Buck I've ever handled. There is ZERO play.

Needless to say, I'm very happy with it.
