18" WWII Model vs. 18" Sirupati

After reading the descriptions of these khuks at HI's website, I'm under the distinct impression that both serve very well as tool AND weapon.

However, considering that the sirupati is lighter than the WWII model, I want to know if it can handle the same type of chopping jobs that a WWII model will.

Thanks in advance!

I have an 18" and 20" Sirupati and I can tell you the way I see it. The Siru seem to me to be general utility knives that can do a bit of every thing. In all honesty when it comes to too heavy a wood the AK at 1 and 1/2 pounds is what I go to.
The 18" WW11 that I have coming is almost to the 2 pound mark. That makes it pretty much of a work horse like Uncle Bill says. If you are not in a hurry the Sirupati's will do lots and lots of work. The 18 or 20 inchers that I have, I could ask for no better. To me it is kind of like useing a gun. enough practice and a guy can do a lot with some of the smaller guns.

The whole thing boils down to what you like and what feels good to you in your hand. I havn't heard many on this forum say bad things about the Sirus.
They are good weapons and as far as going to war, I would not feel that 18" sirupati was insufficient. It just was not made to keep up with a 2 pound knife.

I have both and the 18" WWII is by far my favorite. It just does the job better in the chopping department. Not as good as my Chiruwa AK but the difference is so small that it is almost meaningless and the WWII is lighter and easier to handle. It is also an elegant and beautiful blade, a pure joy to handle (like all HI Khuks but even more so). If it's a one or the other choice I'd take the 18" WWII although I think you would enjoy either one.

P.S. Pappy you are going to love yours:)

the laws of physics...WWll has more weight, and more of that weight is in the end of the blade, not as evenly distributed as the Sirupati. That nose heavy blade is going to chop better.

Martino say: "WWll may be best combination of weapon and tool and is preferred by Bando practioners." (paraphrase)

Cole, I think you are probably right. I sure loved the looks of it from the picture Uncle Bill took, and I haven't had one arrive yet that didn't look better in the hand. the 17" one won't be bad either.

Munk, your are on the beam. "probably the best combination of tool and weapon that ever was". There has to be a good reason why the gorkha used them so extensively and would not part with them except in death.:)

Never had an 18"WW2 or Sirupati.

A 16.5" WW2 is in reach as I post. Have two 20" Sirupatis, one mounted vertically behind drivers seat of truck.

If these were rifles I'd sum them up as all being in the 30-06 class - adequate for most anything you're likely to need doing.

Thanks for good comments, guys.
