Well, i like to jump in with both feet. Took the virgin BK16 FFG outside today. I immediately went to batoning with it. This is the same piece of super hard Black Walnut, that has a nasty twist in it. I figured that would be a good test. Words alone do not describe how hard i had to pound this thing to get through it. The knife was a little short for this big hunk of wood, so i had to pound the pommel many different times to get the handle back up against the wood, so i had a little of the knife tip sticking out, to finish batoning it all the way through. Makes you REALLY appreciate the extended tang/pommel. Enjoy.
This is where the tip disappeared.
Resulting in me having to baton the extended tang/pommel.
Many times, to get the handle back up against the wood, so i could baton the tip again.
The BK16 basking in victory.
A little whittling. MAN, this is hard wood ! (minds out of the gutter please, LOL)
Decided to drill a hole, the edge held up nicely.
When all was said & done, the garden gnome approved !
It did not shave hair afterwards. But just ONE SWIPE on each side of the butchers steel had it shaving paper again. I realized i probably bit off a little more than i should have, doing this with that little knife, but i test things hard, so that i know absolutely that it can hang tough when needed. The blade did not deflect at all when going through the twist in the wood. It stayed nice & straight. The coating stayed on pretty well. Another job well done by the master of Becker Knife & Tool.
