John Powell, Not2sharp and Bill Martino : what is your opinion on this 2 Kukhuries that I own since many years? I've found them in a french military surplus, and were the two last. No number. Khuk N°2 have no handle slabs : the wood was completely worm-eaten. Apologies for the poor picture scans quality.

And here bigger scans size : http://membres.lycos.fr/stephensee/index.htm

Many thanks.

Stephensee.

stephensee,

Do you have the sheaths, and, can you provide the measurements and tell us whether there are any markings on either knife?

The top knife looks like a fairly recent military pattern khukuri from Nepal. It could be WWII, but is probably much younger. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the handle has been either replaced, or extensively reworked.

The bottom knife is older and more interesting. Probably an uncommon Indian made military knife dating to the early 20th century.

Hi N2sharp,

Khuk N°1 : 44 cm (17,32")
Khuk N°2 : 45 cm (17,71")

No sheats. They were covered of machine grease. The wood handle has been cleaned with emery cloth.

And no markings. They come from a military lot of kukhuries marked and not marked. Those were the latest of the lot.

I can't argue with n2s. The bottom khukuri is interesting. I wonder if that's the original handle?

N2S shouldn't really stand for Not Too Sharp. He nailed this one pretty well.

The upper is a villager that somehow found it's way into a surplus lot and who knows who rehandled it, but that bottom one is fascinating and may even be very late 19th century. The handle would have flared in an opposite direction and that bolster may be a local blacksmith's work.

I would really have to see it to make a little more sense, but it could be an early Mk I knockoff from WW I. The Gurkhas had quite a prescence their during the first mixup, but never came close during WW II. I have bought a few WW I pieces in France, but they were in dreadful shape with no sheaths or grips.

The only kukri I have ever seen in France is at the Military Museum in Paris.

John, this kukhuri has been found in the surplu's by me like that. The wood handle has been cleaned by me with emery cloth because all the knife was covered of machine grease. But its form was like this.

Thanks John Powell, Not2sharp and Bill Martino for your evaluation.
Any idea of price?

Stephen.

If the bottom one is "damascus", like the picture CLEARLY shows, about $600

:D

(see eBay khuk thread)

Not damascus Tohatchi, just stell and rasp marks.
And Spark, if you ear me... I just want, if possible, a little idea of price.

Ok I understand this phrase now. Sorry John P. It's sometime difficult for me to translate correctly in french what I read on this forum. I didn't understand the : "who knows who ". But now I understand. It's never too late! Sorry!
