2 variables when choosing a Khukuri?

What I am wondering is when choosing a khukuri, do the various models fit on a range between fighter and utility? I know that, ignoring the tourist junk, any khukuri can fit both these roles, but what I want to know is are there khukuris that are archetypical utility blades and some that are archetypical fighters? I have read that the AKs are superb utility blades and the (excuse the spelling) serupatis are light and fast and so great fighters. Is there a range then that you can stick the various khukuris on that balance them between fighter and utility? Or is there a khukuri that is a great fighter and great utility blade, or what? Do you trade one variable off for the other?

I hope you understand what I mean! Thanks for your input.

Crayola,

In general I think the answer is yes (unless you happen to be fighting an opponent wearing armor, in which case an 18" AK will do double duty

). The qualities that make up a good chopper generally make it slower and less effective as a weapon. The best compromise of the two functions, IMO, is the WWII, which was (as the name implies) the model used by Gurkha troops to good effect against both Burmese jungle and Japanese soldiers (among others).
