Folks, it looks like our field is narrowing down to a stockman or trapper.

There is a trapper question on the table and we should address it now. Several people have expressed a desire for the trapper to be a wharny. It has to win the popular vote and then we would have a subsequent vote regarding the warncliff blade.

stag has been the clear cut handle material leader with more votes than he others combined (barely)

1095 has been the expressed steel fav with d2 as a follw up.

I exchanged emails with Canal Street and am waiting for a follow up question. After that, I will share their response to availability. I ballparked the desired delivery date to Fall of 08.

Without further ado, here is the poll.

Also, if someone could email me the past graphic I would appreciate it.

As far as trappers go, I personally would much prefer the wharncliffe version.
(I love the stockman pattern as well. A variation on a theme there might be a pen blade instead of the spey making it more useful for most users.)

Sure would like to see a pen blade vs. spey in the stockman

Blue,
Could you post a wharncliffe version or give a URL to an example.

Thanks

You can use search to find some examples here on the forum.

You can also click the link below my signature and go to my photo site. In the "Custom Folders" album you'll see a wharncliffe trapper by J.B. Moore as one example of a wharncliffe trapper. (It is based on Tony Bose's pattern which Tony was kind enough to share with J.B. some years ago.)

Stockman, along the lines of a Mooremaker. The stag and bone are made by queen. The 5301 which is 3 7/8 closed (bottom pic), is a very handy size, and the blades seat deeply into the handles. the knife on top is 4 1/4 in stag. Its a very clean EDC. Moormaker's knife is 1095 steel. I would prefer ats-34.

Notice how deep the main clip blade seats into the handles.

I voted stockman; would like carbon steel, and possibly an awl instead of the traditional spey blade.

Bump to the top; this is the most current poll ignor the previous ones...

I like the idea of an awl instead of a spey blade on a Stockman.

Wharncliffe Trapper. But maybe in Mini size.....still think stag is not such a good choice, if the quality is there yes but mediocre stag is inferior to bone or horn.

I am going to have to upgrade to platinum so I can close the old polls. (At least that is the sincere explanation to offer my wife!)
