Just got this one in the mail today, as a replacement for one I lost some years ago. It's nice to have this friendly-looking tool in my hand, and it reminds me of all the adventures I had with its predecessor.

However, I noticed something funny about this one, and I'm wondering what you guys think. Take a peek, and see if this looks normal to you.

As (I hope) you can see from these low-quality pictures I snapped, there's a little nipple on the top corner of the blade, at the base of the spine. It's kinda uncomfortable under the thumb... if I were to use this knife for an extended period, it wouldn't be pleasant.
So, my question is... Is this a "feature" or a "defect" in the manufacturing process? It's no big deal to me, really, because I can always file or sand it off, but it makes me wonder.
Thanks,
Alex

The Bump was kicked around previously in another thread and Jeff H responded and said why.

And yes, You can remove it. I have done two of mine simply using the coarse diamond hone that came with my lansky sharpener. Mainly just to see if I could. Son in law likes his bumps... Says it tells him where his thumb is.

A trick is to take an old junker sheath (Pakistani) and fold the flap over the blade to protect your hand. With the blade then half open, the bump will be elevated. Yeah, it takes a while, but I do them while I am sitting here reading the threads. Smooth it with a fine hone if it marks up the blade too much, or some ultra fine wet/dry

Here is the post..took me a while to find it.

Awesome! Wow, you guys over here in the Buck forum really know your stuff!

I kinda had a hunch it was a leftover from the blanking stage, after seeing the photo of the various stages of the blade production process.

Don't think it'll be an issue; think I'm gonna leave it. :)

Thanks again!
Alex

 Lets say that I bought more than one of those. :D Gonna leave the rest alone probably, just to know which ones they are. Did a couple just to play games.:D

I would consider it a defect, and remove it. I have never handled a bucklite, but that would really annoy me

A defect to me is something wrong with an indiviual knife vs the factory design. This is not a defect but rather a element of the knife that some don't like. I had not even noticed it on mine till I saw these threads on it a few months ago.....

I'm gonna leave mine the way it is, and if anyone asks about it, I'll tell 'em it's the "Recession Special" Bucklite. ;)

Did you go to the Buck web specials and see how much these "specials" did not cost us?
One of the best deals around.

And Welcome to the Buck forum!

Thanks! It's been fun so far! And tom19176, you have a point, I guess I hadn't seen it that way. It is still as great value, but it's so easy to remove the bump, why not if you want to? It just makes the knife a little more "yours".

Side note... It's amazing to me how Buck can put out top-quality products with such consistency. The only other company I've known to do such volume of awesomeness is Victorinox, pumping out millions of flawless, identical items. Two thumbs up!
