I am familar with .22 bird shot, shorts, longs long rifles & 22 mags. I do not know about .22 WRM ammo.

Would someone enlighten this old man, please ? Thank you.

.22 WRM is the .22 mag, WRM stands for Winchester Magnum Rimfire.
I've seen it mostly as .22 WMR, but I've also seen it as .22 WRM.

Slightly larger and longer case diameter. It will not chamber in a .22 Long Rifle firearm.

Thank you Jill & the Glockman . Getting ready for the semi-annual gun show here in 2 weeks. Have plenty of ammo but particullary interested in .380 semis, mostly Bursa.

.22 WRM is the .22 mag,

The shortened version, .22 magnum, is the one I am most familiar with and is usually the most commonly used name for the cartridge.

In fact we have a well known younger forum member whose user name is .22magnum. :D

Winchester developed the .22 magnum, just as Peters Cartridge developed the .22 long rifle. Of course, nobody says .22 Peters long rifle today, but you still hear Winchester associated with the magnum mainly due to it being developed in the 1950's and not 1887 like the long rifle.
I really like the .22 magnum. It has enough power, with a well placed shot to handle a coyote within 75 yards and it's still pleasant enough to shoot.

I like the .22 Magnum also. Good stuff and according to the published specs it has the same penitration as a .38 special. Definantly a good Coyote round. :) Like shooting Magnums through my Ruger Single Six convertible.

Agreed 100%! :D

I have not had the chance to fire the 'new' .17HRM yet but many say it is a treat to shoot, being flatter and faster, but I also think more expensive to purchase and being available in lots less guns than the established .22mag.

I'm not keen on reloading these days so anything that comes near the venerable .22Hornet is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Only thing I don't like about the newer .17 based on the .22 mag, is the small amount of lead. I understand it only shoots 17 and 20 grain bullets. You can get a much wider range in the .22mag. I've read it's not the equal of the mag for bigger animals. But, I've ran into some people that think it will down a bear! In fact I even read of it being used to take a wild hog and I believe it was with the solid 20 grain load. Suppose the .22 mag would too with a well placed shot. I know the .22mag is a deer poachers favorite, due to the lesser noise it makes over a high-powered rifle.

You get some pretty interesting jacketed bullets and up to 2200FPS velocity with the .22WMR in rifles. Pistol performance is not as impressive. Low report and recoil. As much energy at 100 yards as most .22LRs at muzzle. A good killing cartridge.

Probably the most fun firearm I own is a Grendel P-30. For those not familiar, it is a plastic framed handgun chambered for .22 Magnum with a thirty round magazine. The real fun is handing it to someone else that has watched me shoot it. It makes so much noise that they expect to be fighting major recoil (especially if they have ever shot any of my other guns). Most of them flinch big-time before they realize it kicks like a typical .22.

The .22 WMR through a pistol gives almost the performance as a .22 LR through a rifle, but it is far superior through the same length barrel.

I have 3, .22 mag rifles, just this one in a revolver.
