Well after ordering my first ESEE (a HEST) a couple weeks ago I, like most of you, have been bitten by the bug. So, from hanging out here I would like to have ordered one of each but that's just not in the cards right now. So, to satisfy my hunger for a bit I just bought the 6S with clip point and the AH1 Arrowhead.

Well, they just came in the mail 10 minutes ago (to my office yet so I"m trying to "look busy" while checking these bad boys out lol. The 6 is... holy crap. What a knife!! I must have looked at a zillion pictures online and read every review written but in all honesty it's bigger than I expected. Not a bad thing; I'm just surprised. IN all honesty I'm not that much of an outdoorsman. I would love to be - I read lots of outdoors/survival stuff on forums, go fishing once a year (which realistically includes as much drinking as fishing) but with 2 small children, a full time job and a wife working full time opposite hours as me life's hectic to say the least.

So really, while I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with this I can't wait to even get it out in the yard and put it to the task on anything I can think of for it to do outside. THe fit and finish on this thing is amazing and it's hair shaving sharp. I have also ordered the molle back sheath for my upcoming fishing trip so I'll keep it on me and use it every chance I get. (considering most of the guys I go with aren't really outdoorsmen I will look like the Rambo in the group :) Nice job ESEE - no wonder you guys have a cult like following.

And the AH1 - well, it's smaller than I thought. I'd swear it would fit in the HEST handle but from that one thread I know it has to be trimmed down. But for some reason it's SUPER cool. I want to tape it to the end of my pen and use it as a throwing knife around my office.. (but I won't ;o) Not sure what/if I'll actually use it but then again, most of the sharp pointy things I own are for my own enjoyment and even though they rarely get used I still love them.

Alas, this has just added more fuel to the fire. Now I'm eyeballing the 4 - something between the HEST and the 6... I think I'm going to cook supper with the 6 tonight :)

Congratulations on the 6. Its my favorite knife and the one I carry in the woods. The molle back and pouch really make it the best sheath system I've ever used.

Appreciate the post. I'm sure you wil find some uses for that 6. ;)

Congrats! And what cricketdave said. The 6 might be my favorite out in the woods knife. It big enough for a lot of chores, but not so big that it can't handle smaller tasks. You're going to enjoy it.

Are you sure you don't want a Junglas next?

You should really try the Izula II or the 3. I am into smaller blades as they get more use in my daily life. As you work in an office, the Izula II is a bit smaller than the HEST and I find easier to carry around.....don't get poked by the prybar (I'm going to grind that down, don't like it) and is just as sharp. The 3 is a good smaller knife too, the blade geometry is like a more standard knife, where the Izula II has a blade-forward geometry that is really cool.

I'm glad you liked it! I hope to get a 6 serrated someday as I like serrations. That clip point should make cutting open fish pretty easy.

For EDC I generally carry a Spydie Sage I with the textured CF. I'll likely only use/carry my fixed blades around the yard or when I get out fishing and the like.

If we actually f'n catch anything this year I will most definitely be using the six to cut the fish. Well, with my fillet skills it may be more like just chop off it's head and throw it in a pan lol.

I was looking at it more at lunch. With the finger indent right behind the choil you can really choke up on it and I'm guessing would make it good for more detailed work. The serrations are cool too - I've never seen serrations quite like that before and now understand better how people say they can be sharpened on a regular stone. I've got a Sharpmaker so serrations aren't a big deal but I'm anxious to try them out on some pruning around the yard.

I really like the look of the clip point and to have that secondary edge I think will really be handy. It may hinder batoning through wood a bit but in most instances I'll have a hatchet and if ever in a survival situation I'm sure it will baton just fine. Hell, I could probably chop down trees and build myself a wood cabin with this thing - it's very confidence-inspiring :)

Now to figure out what to do to it for mods lol :) (my HEST already has a deep orange RIT-dyed handle which turned out pretty nice..) - yes, I will post pics one of these days.

Congrats on your new "Toys", your gonna love that 6, I know i sure do, the best in the group in my eyes.....:D

the clip point actually battons just fine for me. it does chew up the batton but so what its going in the fire too.
