3 little "watch pocket" knives coming

I've never needed or wanted to carry a big knife - 3 1/2" or 3 5/8" is about perfect for me. I carry it in my left front pocket. Anyway, I decided that I needed to try also carrying a little fella in the watch pocket of my jeans, so I ordered 3 of them to try out:

1) Case Eisenhower. 3 1/8" closed. Standard Knife Company natural bone. SS Spear and Pen blades.

2) Case Tiny Wharncliffe Trapper. 2 3/8" closed. Smooth dark red bone. SS Wharncliffe and Clip blades.

3) Case Tiny Toothpick. 3" closed. Dark red jigged bone. CV Clip blade.

Do any of you guys carry a little knife like one of these, and do you find yourself using it more, about the same, or less than your bigger knives?

If a knife is too big for the watch pocket, I won't EDC it... All of my favorite EDCs fall between 2 7/8" and 3 1/8"

A yellerhandle CV Peanut or a Vic Classic are my usual watchpocket carries...that is when I deem it necessary to have a watchpocket knife.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the mighty mites. I did most of my day to day cutting chores with a peanut, when I carried one. Heck, a Vic classic still does a lot of work for me since it has 'soft' springs, and I can open it easy. One of my favorite knives back years ago was a little Boker 240 I think it was. About 3 1/8th overall with a clip and pen blade. I liked the one backspring design and it rode in a watch pocket great. Never knew it was there till needed. I let somebody talk me out of, and missed it for a long time. As I got older I went to smaller knives. Now even though I'm using lockblades, I still try to get a small one if I can, watch pocket size. For day to day life in the 'burbs a 2 inch blade seems to do most of what I have to do. Sometimes it even does the unusual.

Last week I bought some 3M attic insulation home from Lowes to try to keep my attic colder so as to keep the massive amount of snow from melting too quick after the back to back blizzards we had. I had ice dams in my gutters the size of Hoover dam. Karen would push up the big bags of the inulation up to me in the attic and I cut them open with my classic. I knew the fiberglass was going to wreck any edge on a knife, so I used the classic thinking the thin blade would do okay even dull. It did go though the plastic casing freeing the 12 inch thick pieces of insulation. It did just fine. Had to resharpen it afterward though, it got dull as a butter knife.

Heck, the blade on a Stanley sliding blade utility knife is only about an inch, and look what guys on construction sites do with it.

Dad always told me; it don't have to be big, just sharp. The old man seemed to know what he was talking about.

Work rules say I cannot carry a knife with a blade longer than 2" and an open length of 4 1/2", so I have a couple of little guys.
Here's my Tiny Trapper.

Here's a Camillus-made Remington pen knife. It has a 2" main blade, but is 1/8" over the opened length limit. I still carry it. Whose to know it's out of spec? (except you folks)

I don't carry a knife in my watch pocket, because I keep a pocket watch in there! I've been thinking of carrying some smaller knives with me though, because sometimes a big blade is just overkill.

Also because I found this Case Eisenhower in one of my boxes today-- It must have been in there for almost 20 years! I didn't even know I had it. Score-- almost like having a new knife!

Here's an old Case Penknife. The main blade has a little nick near the tip and there's a funky patina on the little blade- still a sweet little knife, though!

And this is a neat little Kershaw my parents gave me years ago.

I've thought of sewing a little knife pocket inside my other pockets, so I can carry one of these and not have it rattling around with my change and keys.

I like the pen knife from case. Just big enough for daily chores. The warncliffe blade is one of my favorites and I really love CV from case. I see your back in.

I have a few that fit well into the watch pocket

from back to front...

the little knife with the big clip is likely Eastern Europe in origin
the goldplated knife actually holds a great edge, from Thailand
of course my Case peanut in CV
an Old Timer Mighty-Mite, the only locking blade
my Case Shadow Bone Baby Butterbean
And last a Case Tiny Toothpick

Dug around and found five watch pocket pens. All except the upper right Hammer Brand are 3". It is slightly smaller.

"I see you're back in" -- that's a little inside joke from Joe to me. In the past I've bought a fair number of knives, tried them out, and then sold a fair number of said knives to Joe. The last time, about 3 weeks ago, I told Joe that I was slowing down, and probably wouldn't be buying any more knives. Guess I fell off the wagon! ;)

I certainly don't fall into the category of "collector", and not even into the "accumulator" category. More like a "that looks interesting" type of purchaser. Then if I don't figure I'll ever carry it much, out it goes. In fact there are only 3 knives that have become permanent for me: Case Sodbuster Jr. yellow cv, Victorinox Alox Soldier, and a Case penknife yellow cv. (Ya I know, the penknife could have been my watch pocket knife; but that's the one I keep on the table next to my recliner and laptop. I need it to stay right there.:D

My watch pocket usually has my Zippo tape measure in it. My paternal grandfather carried a small tape measure everywhere he went and I picked up the habit.

Comes in handy all of the time.

Keith,

You are a better man then me, I buy and buy. Can't stop and never sell. Let me know what model you like. You have great taste in knives.

Kinda off track from the "watch pocket knife" theme here, but I thought I'd post a pic of my Sodbuster Jr. I'm no good at this computer picture stuff, so all I could figure out was to take a pic with the built-in camera. (Click on it to make it bigger, I guess). Anyway, I took some of the belly off the blade and I like it better this way. Didn't touch the spine or shorten the length any. It might look shorter, but that's just the angle I was holding it at. ;)

The CASE Yellow Pen-Knife is a very good small stowaway,I'd like to see CASE do more of these in other scales too.

The Böker Pen is slightly smaller and Böker also do a very nice small lockback in stag that is a credible slicer.

Hen&Rooster offer a small canoe/Butterbean that is larger than CASE's mite but still a small un.

I usually have either a peanut or a 33OT sitting in the watch pocket, but lately that pocket's been occupied by a couple NiMH rechargeable batteries, which fit it to a T. Because of that, I've been carrying around a stockman pattern instead.

Mustn't underestimate the cutting capability of those little pocket knives, or they'll come back and bite you. Learned that the hard way.

I keep my small knife in my right front pocket. My watch pocket is where I carry my pocket watch. I don't like having bracelets on my wrists.

My watch pocket knives:

GEC #25 Barlow in smooth buffalo horn - thumb-sized

Case Peanut in amber bone - pinky-sized

One of these gets carried at least five days a week. I wear dress clothes for work, and a small knife is easier in the pockets (as well as being more elegant).

Heck, you can't wear a wrist watch while your arm is buried in those big old jet engines anyway. ;) (I'm an old B-52 mechanic who was stationed just up the coast from you for a while in the 60's - 70's).

Very nice looking Tiny Trapper in your first post, too!
