i was talked into trying these by scott at tru-grit. i was reluctant because the other 3M ceramics belts just did not hold up as well as the norton hoggers. well i must admit that these yellow color belts cut and cut and cut. they are a little less in cost than than nortons too! anyone else tryed these? have any comments?

I am not familiar with theses brands in Perth there is only a couple of suppliers I got my last batch the the eastern states of Australia.
Do these belts come in the thin Jweight style or the thick style. How much do they cost and do you think they would ship to Australia.

The problem I have had with belts is the thin ones tend to form into my groved wheel and feels lumpy.

these are E weight belts much heavier than the light J belts. they cost $6.50 and if you have just used A/O or S/C belts these are ceramic and last at least 10 times as long. they are a 50 grit belt and they have finer ones. call scott at tru-grit 909-923-4116, thats pacific standard time. i am sure he will ship to you. i dont know if these are listed on their site? www.trugrit.com

Just got some Bubba, got them from trugrit
also. Can`t realy comment on them yet but
so far so good. I was talk into trying
them to. But I do like those Norax.

Laurence I'm about to order some belts so might give these a try. Do you you whether they come in 120? That's about the only ceramic I need right now. Thanks,

Dave

not sure, that is my next question too. the norton norax belts are king for about 150g and finer (their X100) so today i am working on some (deba) chisel grind japanese style chef knives in s30v. i will report back on going from the 3M C,50g to the norax x100

Rhinoknives: The 967 belts are my personal favorite-the only drawback is that they are not offered in fine grits. I use the 60 grit for all my rough grinding. The trick is not to run them too fast-about 2000-3000 FPM works well. This way, you can get more pressure. These belts are designed for hand grinding, as opposed to the 977, which are for high speed, high pressure work.

I have not used the Norton belts yet, but, going to a 240 grit Regalite Polycut works fine for me, so, the Nortons would probably work well too.

RJ, i am glad you mentioned that because thats why i like them and did'nt realise it. thats what i did not like about the 3m regalite, i had to run them so fast that i would get too much heat to fast.

I've been running the Cubitron belts for about a year or more and I love them. They seem to offer longer life as well as improved "slow speed" performance...particularly in the tougher steels such as 420V and 3V. They also do a pretty good job on titanium The only drawback (as was already mentioned) is that 80 grit is as fine as they offer as far as I know. I keep bugging my supplier to push them to offer at least a 120 grit but no luck so far.

going from the 967 50g to the norax 100x whent great on the s30v and BG-42 batchs of culinary and field blades i am working on for the BAKCA show in the SF area this sept, i have a new design i call the pygmy rhino, its a 2 1/2" blade upswept hunter. the funny thing is most of the buyers are women for themselves. i have a second name for the prospective female buyers,

(the parking lot pal)i will add some pics to the rhino site soon.

Laurence thanks for the valueable update. I know what my next order will look like. ;) Please let us know when you update your site with the new design, sounds like a winner.

Thank you for the reply. Im fairly sure I am using some A/O and something else I was told is not as good as A/O.

I bought a batch a while ago and the supplier went broke. I make a lot of cheap forged items for the tourist market and have not done a great deal of heavy grinding I spent about $150 and they are just running out. A/o were considered the long life belts at the time.
If these last longer they must be good.
Thanks again.

ps just been to the site listed good range of gear.

Laurence, I just tried them in my last order from Koval. They do indeed cut great. I got two grits and I'm thinking they were 36 and 50 but maybe I'm misremembering. At any rate, I am running my grinder at one speed and it's fairly slow so that's probably why they have worked so well for me.

I love those belts, I use 60 grit for all of my grinding then I go to heat treat. Pop Knives Supplies is where I get mine from and he told me they work best on vari-speed belt grinders. :D
