Can you use a piece of flint on the back of the knife to strikes sparks with like other carbon steel or does the chromium mess that up?

If nobody else comes in with an answer first I'll be sure and try it out this weekend. I've never even thought of trying it as I always keep a ferro rod in my sheath. Maybe ask the boys over in the Wilderness subforum. I'll bet somebody over there has already tried it.

According to Rod Garcia of Skookum Bush Tool fame, 3V won't spark with flint.

Get yourself a firesteel and have at it. That'll work.

Thanks guys, I was thinking it wouldn't work. I already have a couple of ways of starting a fire while out. This is just an "All else fails" type of thought. Like if you lost all your gear but your knife and found a rock in a stream. I guess I'll just have to carry my hatchet with me. Darn.:p
