440C hot or cold rolled

Could anyone elaborate on the differences reguarding the differences in 440c hot rolled verses cold rolled.I recently tripled quenched a fillet knife using hot rolled bar stock and had good results, But cannot duplicate using cold rolled. Any infro will be appreciated...
