I am looking at the Maxpedition Double Magazine pouch for carrying a flashlight, Leatherman or knife for camping and things of the sort but also see that the 5.11 double mag pouch is about $10.

Now I have a store that carries both brands and I can go in there and test the fit for the items but if you guys have any experience with the 5.11 or the Maxpedition and what is the fit like on a Leatherman Charge or Wave or tool of similar size or a Knife of the Buck 110 or Spyderco Mini Manix size.

So no one has used either of these modules or even the single mag holders would be good feedback.

I use the single Maxpedition pouch to carry may cellphone in the horizontal configuration and am impressed by the build quality, hope that helps.

initially, i found 5.11 gear to be of outstanding quality. there was a basic line of clothing, including bdu's. there were a few accessories like bags and such.

in the last two years the company has released, imo, far too many items for sale. we had a rep bring out their newest line of gear a couple years ago to show off. the knives, which i think were produced by blade tech, were the only items i thought worth my money. the new bags had stitching issues and appeared sloppily designed.

this may have all been corrected, buy the only 5.11 stuff ill still buy is from some of the clothing line.

every maxped product ive owned has been great. quality stitching, thick and durable nylon, and reasonably priced.

the fit should be about the same for the items you have.

I've used the Maxpedition double sheath for years now, for carrying my Swisstool Spirit multitool and an Inova X5 flashlight. The pouch rocks. It is absolutely bombproof. Great quality hook and loop. The Maxpedition is the real deal.

I own both. Both are excellent products. I keep the 5.11 pouches I have on my 5.11 vest. My Maxped Pouches are attached to my Maxpedition Bags. I think you can't lose with either but the Maxpedition are way more durable and robust. The Velcro closure on them is no joke either. They stay put well and hold knives, multi-tools, and pistol mags and such very securely. I don't regret buying the 5.11 pouches because they are a nice product and have served me well. But the Maxpeds are better IMHO.

I have a 511 single AR-15 magazine pouch with the pull-top closure (instead of a flap). The quality and materials seem fine and the price wasn't too bad on it.

I will agree with morimotom that some of their products are iffy. I have actually had issues with inconsistant fit with some of their clothin products. However, to be fair, I noticed the change coincided with a change in producer- they sourced to a factory in a different country. Similarly, I bought a pair of their boot laces- they fell apart way too quickely.

Maxpedition has a good rep, but is also usually sort of pricey. I personally don't own any of their stuff- so I won't comment on it.
