I love my 42s and must thank BM for bringing 'em out.

For my ideal BM bali I would dream for 2 features.

1) 5 inch blade
2) A full flat grind for improved edge geometry

My humble suggestion would be an Imada high FLAT. By avoiding the original hollow grind, BM can keep the cost down...I can see paying around 200 bucks for a 5 inch Imada bowie style with a high flat grind, cast Ti handles, latch gate, and torx pins.....AAAAAAGH!

Any thoughts?

Bill

Yeah. Unless they move back to 3/16" blade stock, that flat grind is gonna have a real brittlely thin edge with the existing 1/8" blade stock. Still, very doable, if the 49's kris blades are any indication.

And not to nitpick: but if it's flat ground, we can't keep calling it the Hi-Hollow any more. It'll have to be the Imada Hi-Flat grind.:D

I'll add: a steel handle, instead of the cast Ti. You'll need that extra weight to swing it fast.

That, I'd definitely go for.

What do you have against Ti.....
Is it just that your used to the steel handles...
I have a BM42 and I like the weight of the handles...
I like the fact the handles are made of Ti, seems more high tech..

This is my first high quality bali and had two other cheapie ones when I was younger.

See edited post. Steel will add the mass to compensate for the extra length of the handles as the blade grows to 5". The momentum carried by that extra mass will speed the swing of the handles. It's not a matter of what I'm used to, it's a matter of the handle geometry. Come over to my house, and I'll give you the 2 SWAT 5" bali's to swing. One is aluminum (to simulate the Ti), the other is brass (to simulate the steel) and you'll understand.

Hey if your serious....I would take you up on that offer. I live on Long Island. Maybe you can show me some cool moves. I have yet to meet someone who is a real bali enthusiast. Some of my friends know how to open one but aren't really "enthusiast" like us.

Oh, I'm serious. Uranium is scheduled to come over to take pic's (don't forget the camera ). Nybble is scheduled to come over to flip the 49's (bandaid and neosporin will be provided). And now you for a hands on exposure to steel handled bali's. Guess I should have the 5" Steel handled Custom Weehawk ready for comparison, heh.

There are several NYC regional bali enthusists on this forum.

Cool
I would love to come see some of your bali's
I'd come when one of the other guys go too...make it a little get together.

And defenitly we should organize a NYC area meeting to show off some bali's we have...trade stories....and maybe Clay would grace us with his presence...I would love to see him in action after seeing some of his videos.

bali party!? Great idea!
Unfortunately i cannot attend because of car trouble!
Trouble is my car cant do Denver to NYC in a couple of hours!!!
(Also, Mr Inosanto is in town for the weekend...YES!)

So who is in for a reasonably affordable 5 inch Imada high FLAT???

Bill

Count me in for any NYC goings on.

Oh, and what happened to the ocyrus blade? I was looking forward to seeing that!
