After looking thru the Esee offerings I decided they don't have what I want. I want the larger and thicker handle of the Junglas, I DON'T want any choil and a blade length of 7" would be a nice size, and keep the same style kydex sheath system.

OK then get cracking and make me one!

Well you gotta give it the guy. He knows what he wants. But unless you are a LEO, SERE instructor, or on a Columbian drug task force, you can forget getting an ESEE design without a choil. A regular, everyday outdoorsman doesn't seem to have much influence on these matters. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you (as I was told), ESEE LOVES choils and if you don't......oh well. No biggie though, plenty of excellent manufacturers out there that can provide what you're looking for and would love to have you as a customer.

izula, izula II, esee-5, and the junglas all have no choil. you would be surprised, the junglas seems to get smaller as you use it. it becomes like an extension of your arm.

but, maybe a becker would be more up your alley.

Yea, the Becker BK7 has (obviously) a 7" blade and no choil. As for the handle..you could get aftermarket micarta.

Yea, that pretty much sums it up.

No I don't want the BK7 but you're right, what I described sounds like a BK7.

I like the entire system of the Junglas, I'm only afraid that it might be too long.

Can I ask you something? Why are you here? There are lots of mfrs on BF that make designs I don't like, but I don't take the time to waste space with drivel like this on their forum.

Haven't seen you around here much up until recently and a good chunk of your posts seem to be negative. Have you gone back through any of the threads where Jeff and Mike come here and directly as for our input on the design of products? Honest question.

Either way, glad to have you around, maybe if you hang out long enough, ESEE will put out something you like.

You should definitely try out a Junglas. I was uncertain before I got mine, but now I love it. It is nice and fast in the hand and has awesome handles. The knife just feels really intuitive to use. You can tell that a lot of time and thought went into the design which really makes it a pleasure to use hard. Oh...did I mention it is tough as Hell. :D

+1 to pretty much all of these sentiments. Good post.

You may want to look into the Laser Strike when it comes out if you are looking for a largish blade w/o choil. It's only 5.5 cutting edge instead of 7. Or as was mentioned you could get a Junglas and put your elbow grease where your mouth is and mod it (But for heavens sake, don't let us hear you turned it in on warranty if you botch or don't like it.) Or go find a MFG which makes said knife (Sounds like Becker already makes one, and I don't think anyone here, including Jeff and Mike would try and turn you off of Becker.)

God bless,
Adam

adaman, you took the words right out of my mouth . . .:)

too long for your pack? belt carry?

It's overall length is 16.5" which is only 3/4" shorter than my 12" machete.

The big problem is that they are not availble locally so all I have to go by is internet comments and reviews. Everyone having different levels of skill/experience you never know what reviews are accurate.

I watched a youtube video review about the Junglas from a user who broke 2 Kabars. My thoughts on anyone who breaks 2 kabars is that they are not skilled enough to be using a knife in that manner. A skilled bushman could use a rat tang Mora in the same manner and not break it.

Is the Junglas a knife or a machete? How thick is the edge, can it cut wood slowly or is a brute force cutter/chopper such as a Cold Steel Trailmaster?

Thanks,

The Junglas is a large fixed blade knife in my opinion, some call it a machete. It's the same thickness as the ESEE-4 and ESEE-6. Guys are getting these things shaving sharp yet they're still resilient to hard use because of good heat treated 1095 from Rowen. The Junglas is a big knife, more than I would want to tote in the woods all the time. If what you're really looking for is what you posted in the OP, ESEE doesn't have one of those in the lineup at this point like you said. Can't make exactly what everyone wants. That's why variety is the spice of life.

If you think you might be interested in the Junglas, use one of our excellent dealers who has a good return policy and will let you return the unused knife. You'll only be out shipping if you don't like it.
