84mm SAK on Keyring

I purchased yesterday a Vic Recruit, and was surprised at just how light weight the knife is, despite it being only two layers. So light, I'm considering carrying it on my keyring. However, I'm wondering if an 84mm SAK is perhaps a bit large for a keyring in that it will look too conspicuous when producing my keys from my pocket in public, such as to open my car door or present my keyring library card. Furthermore, how resistant is cellidor to scratching from keys? After say, a year of carry, will the V'nox emblem be erased from the scales from chafing with keys?

The cellidor will get scratched up. The stuff is tough, but not particularly hard. If you use it, it will accumulate "character marks". The emblem should be inlaid metal and will get scratched but will not be erased. Personally, I would say an 84mm SAK is a little large for keyring carry.

Hi my EDC is a waiter (1 layer I add a pen to one of the slaves DIY work :D ) one but with nylon slaves (ecomi line) I prefer this material it takes better scrathes.
Usualy I carry it in my pocket.

I love the look of the original one with the alox handles. If only it had scissors. :(

I don't think that even in California you'd get much guff for having a SAK on a keychain.

The handles will get chewed up and scratched though. There's really no avoiding it, even if you carry it seperately or in a pouch. You can buy replacements though.

The good thing is, eventually the whole thing acheives a "battered satin" finish, and stops getting worse! ;)

All that scuffing doesn't harm the functionality. REAL bad abuse can crack the celidor scales, though; silver Alox just gets dull, but is otherwise bomb-proof.

I don't carry an 84mm on a keychain, but if I did, I'd be looking at something in silver Alox, such as the "Original" on that page. (Isn't that what they call the "Bantam Alox" over here?)

My 'Father in Law' carries the Vic Waiter I bought him on his keychain and it looks a bit stupid. He's one of those people who also has about 500 keys.I used to carry a waiter as an EDC but used to keep it in the fob pocket in my jeans. It ws just the right size.Pity about the lack of scissors though.Have you looked at the Compact.Just slightly bigger but well equipped for it's size.
