When I saw the package from Craig today, I couldn't wait to open it up. He told me it was coming and said it was going to be special. What an understatement.

It's one of the new Gurkha House 15" AK models and it is, in a word, exquisite. This has to be one of the most beautiful Khukuris ever to come out of Nepal. OK, maybe I'm a bit biased because this one is mine. Be that as it may, I'm absolutely captivated by the beauty of this knife. The best way I can describe the fit and finish is "seamless". The blade, brass bolster, horn handle and brass butt-cap have been perfectly tooled, polished and fitted so that they just flow into each other. Smooth as a baby's bottom.

After being used to the weight and feel of my SN-1's (I have 3 of them) I have no doubt that this longer and much heftier AK could quite easily destroy my neighborhood without showing any signs of wear. It reminds me of a Tiger or a Leopard. Powerful, effecient and deadly, but fluid and graceful.

Some dimensions:

OAL - 16 1/4"
Blade length - 10 3/4"
Spine thickness - 7/16"
Blade width - 2"
Weight - Approx 2 pounds

I may take it out and test it if I find something worthy of its capabilities, but not right now. It's a presentation quality piece and I want it to be the centerpiece of the display I'm building. I don't want to scratch up such a beautiful piece of cutlery. It's kinda like having a cruise missile of your own. You'd like to try it to see what it could do, but things would never be quite the same after that.

Thank you Craig. You have truly made this a great week.

While the credit really goes to the man on the front line (the kami) who did the work, I will say that we've been pretty demanding with each new order of khukuris. Frankly, if you hold up a current GH next to an older one, you'll see a marked difference in quality. You have an early model Service Number One, so you know what I am talking about. Not to say that the old ones (which were significantly cheaper) were bad, but they just don't compare with what the kamis are doing today.

I wonder at the reception we'll get in Dharan from the wives - who probably are pretty pi--ed off that there husbands have been always working late . . . I'd better wear my chain mail armor!
