Not sure what I promised to do but I'm in.
There's a rumor in the family that I might have a little Indian blood in me. I think it is mostly mom just wishing it were true, though.
Idea, I think that this would be an excellent project to interest a huge range of magazines and similar. I would like to see some representative photographs of the various knives with short artist bios sent to all the outdoor as well as the art and upscale lifestyle magazines. I think it would be very good for the custom industry if more people knew what was available in custom knives and how reasonable they are. They are beautiful, they photograph well, and they are a whole lot cheaper than upscale watches or even upscale fountain pens.
Ideally the articles would come out just before the auction. This means having some knives ready a couple months before the auction to hit the magazines' lead times.
The only problem I can see is that this kind of publicity will raise the price of knives for people who already collect. However this will bring more artists into the art and focus more attention on the newer, less popular artists, which will also be good.
We are set up here pretty well to do this sort of thing.
We also have a database of knifemakers and I could run postcards if you thought it was a good idea.
Let me know if we can help.
