A couple of Gorkha pix.

AWSOME pictures!!! That's 1st's gonna be my new desktop. Not sure what is going on in the first pic, though. Are they just ducking for cover or getting ready to chop someone on the ground?

Since the guy on the ground appears to be wearing the same uniform I'm guessing they're not whacking him.

I could be wrong, though. It could have been due to yet another "puri" comment gone astray.

Hello everybody,

First Pix (Gorkhas practice in Afghanistan.) is from R. Pohle/EXPRESS/THE TIMES/SIPA PRESS.

Second Pix (in my opinion Gorkhas in Malaysia, but I'm not sure) from "LES GURKHAS, Les Sabres de Katmandou" a french book by Henry NOULLET (Editor : VERCKEN).

If someone want these pix in a bigger size (First Pix : 900x1005 - Second Pix : 1000x804), ask me by email, I'll send it them with pleasure.

Regards,

Stephen.

first pic--

printed from flipped over neg or do they train to use khuks in left hand? three lefties in one pic seems a little unlikely...

Good eye firkin, I believe it is flipped. The British Warrior IFV in the background, the driver hatch should be on the left side of the vehicle rather than the right as shown.

Those pics or something similar were posted here a while back, November maybe. IIRC they were actually in UAE or somewhere in the gulf, before any troops were actually sent into Afghanistan.

As to the flipfloping of the first pic, note the jacket is buttoned right side over left;I can't see the SA80s well enough to check ejection ports. There may be a reason they're practicing with khuks and holding their rifles;aparently there are so many problems with the SA80 there is talk of withdrawing it in favor of M16s or G36s.
The M16 in the hands of the Ghorka in the second photo probably places it in Borneo.

A French book on Ghorkas...Neat.
