A custom bowie knife

Hi guys. I'm looking to buy my dad a custom bowie for a chirstmas gift. He really likes stag handled ones with damascus blades. He just wants it for show, to wear when he's doing cowboy mounted shooting (he fancies himself a bit of a cowboy :p). I cant spend an outrageous amount or anything, I was just wondering if anyone knows a maker who does good work for a reasonable price? I guess I'd go with a production model, I just havent seen one to date that looks 'cowboy' enough to fit the bill.

How about the Cold Steel Larado bowie is SK-5 carbon steel.

What kind of money are you looking at spending? Custom bowies with pattern welded blades are not going to be cheap.
 
As Keith said custom damascus bowies are not cheap. My small damascus bowies with a stag handle would start at about 500.00, and the price can only go up from there, no matter who you get it from. You might find someone to make you one for slightly less, but remember the old saying, you get what you pay for.
 
You might have a hard time getting someone make it by Christmas. The only name that comes to mind right now is Phillip Patton. I remamber he sold a really awsome damascus bowie not too long ago in the makers forum. You might also want to check out ready made ones at www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com
