Today me and the boy headed down to a local state park. We had heard there was something going on, but didn't really know what. We got there and found out the local Avian Center was showing off some of the raptors/birds of prey and had some other activities going on for younger children. First off we went inside to see the birds. A bald eagle (his head wasn't white yet cause he was still young), a horned owl, a hawk, and a peregrine falcon. Very cool looking birds. The eagle was fricking huge, and he kept eyeballing a yorkshire terrier some lady had in her arms. Woulda been cool if he made off with it.
Anyways, the birds.
Then we headed out to the lake so the boy could do some fishing.
Goose!
And another!
Part of the trail around the lake
The lake was pretty crowded, so the boy had a hard time finding any spots to fish that weren't already filled with tons of kids who had the same idea. Thankfully the majority of people are lazy, and very few seem to know that the parks boundaries extend pretty far up the creek that exits the spillway of the dam. Me and the boy have been that was a few times now, and not once seen a single person out there. This is also near where me and the major camped out awhile back.
While the boy was fishing, I spent time practicing feathersticks and spent more time getting acquainted with my BK16. And then I took a bunch of pics, only a few of which came out decently from my phone.
Few more of the boy
All in all, it was a great day. Spent about five hours outside, either walking some of the trails, or goofing off while the boy fished. Not too long a hike, maybe only about 2-2.5 miles total, but it was a good day, and we both had a lot of fun.
