OK, let's make this semi-official so the planning can begin.
Please sign up even if you just think you might want to come to Reno in late August to meet Bill and Yangdu, see what the other forumites are really like, talk curvy knives and generally have a good time.
I am guessing at 25-28 August.
Thanks everyone.

Sign me up. It'll be hard for me to get down there from IN, but I'm sure I can make it. By the way, did you get Khukurati from Illuminati? I really like it.

I'll sign up as a maybe, but will let you know for sure one way or the other well before the event.

I can see the old Navy Officer organization syndrome coming out and good work it is, John.

This is another thread we are going to have to keep at the top.

Rusty, where are you?

We have fifty people within a few hours drive of Reno who could make it. It's a go if we want it to be.

What sort of khukuri do you want for this gathering of the khukurati?

Khukuri FAQ

VHD,
Actually I was thinking 'literati' but 'illuminati' is much classier.

Keep those MAYBES comin' in guys. We'll get this thing figured in spite of me.

Uncle, I was thinking along the lines of a very small commerative khukuri. I am bringing 2 examples to show you as possible ideas.

If you mix milk of magnesia with vodka and orange juice do you get a phillips screwdriver?

Khukuri FAQ

YVSA,
Terry Sisco told me tonite that he and his wife Sandi are going to drive out from Claremore. That's 2 more...
This is someone more forumites should get to know if they want custom leather work done for their scabbards that is still in the traditional Nepalese style.

Add me to the list as a probable.

Also as John mentions a small commemorative khukuri - perhaps a number of Kagas Katne photoetched with the date of this first meeting could be done up. Just think of the impression of a group pix with everyone holding up their kagas katne....LOL!!!

Lord knows that with Uncle Bill living across from the hotel, I'll definitely be stopping in to "sample" his wares....

Put me down for a definite YES! I will be ready for a vacation about then anyway. Besides, i haven't been to Reno in about 8 years.

John,
Put me down! I'll try to get those days off from work. A special Khukuri is a must so we all can remember this special event. Also, I would like to meet everyone in person!

Consider me there as well. I've always wanted to see Uncle Bill's collection.
Always a pleasure Uncle Bill,
Sutcliffe

What a great idea.
See you there.
Jim

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?
And just what are you going to do with this one that you can't do with the others?
What is the purpose of all these knives anyhow??

Count me in. Uncle Bill, any possibility of your arranging for your pals with the great collections to show their knives? I think a show/exhibition of some sort would be a real nice touch.

I should be back in Phoenix by then, so count me in too!

It looks like we have something in the makings. I'll look at what John is bringing today, take a pix and post it (hopefully), and we will get comments. I like the notion of a smaller khukuri.

Let's keep this thing going, move to another thread if necessary (Where's Rusty?), and try to do it right. I would really love to meet all the HI pals in person.

Don't worry, Mohd. We will drink a toast to you and all those who could not make it.

John Powell was here yesterday and got some good info from the hotel. Room rates are very reasonable and he's working on something better -- a group rate if we get enough takers.
