My brother sent me this pic of this knife made by Bob Bissel(sp?). Sorry I don't know the specs or the price, but I figured you'd all like to see this work of art regardless.

Enjoy, and wipe off that keyboard before you electrocute yourself!!:D

Beautiful knife, Rob. I am a sucker for Bowies, and that handle looks like it would be really comfortable, too.

Who forged the Damascus? The maker, or someone else?

This is precisely why they have those keyboard covers that are waterproof!:D Thanks for the picture, I don't want to know the price.

MauiRob,
You probably mean Bob Bizzell from Butte,MT. Bob makes his own Damascus and as you can see is a great knifemaker.

Bob is at the MT Show every year. His table is next to mine, and we've talked a bit about how khukuris are made. Great guy!

You're probably right Art! My brother doesn't proof his spelling in emails too well:D

Wasn't this the knife maker you guys were discussing awhile ago. Someone had his knife as an avatar? or something?

My brother said that other blades like this one were going for about $3000.00, so this one is probably all of that. It would take me 20 years to make this knife so I'd have to charge quite a bit more!!

I love that grind and handle! Take a look at Robbin Hudson's knves if you like damascus (and $3000 price tags ;)). After watching a blade being forged I can see why it costs three grand, hours of work and patience, I wish I was rich :(.

Someone was using the cover of Ed Fowler's book as an avatar; the cover has a pic of several Fowler Pronghorn models.
I have no idea what the price of Bob's knife would have been; I'll e-mail him with a link to this thread and see if he responds.
If that handle is 5 inches, the blade looks to be 11 or 12 inches. That's a whole lot of Damascus to weld cleanly and control the pattern while shaping the blade. Bob's worked hard for a number of years to learn how to make a GOOD knife that size.

That is a honey! I'd love to see it in the steel. BTW, is anyone going to the Northeast Cutlery Collector's Association annual 2-day show this coming weekend in Stamford, CT? I'll be there on Sunday.

You know, my ears were burning all evening and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. You guys have been talking about me behind my back! :D I confess. I made that Bowie. Thanks for the heads-up on this thread, Art. I probably wouldn't have seen it, as I hardly ever venture out of shop forum.
To all of you that have taken the time to look and comment... Thanks! I love to hear what people have to say about my work (most of the time, anyway! lol ).
For those that would like to know a little more about that Bowie...first off, it's pretty big, about 15 inches o.a.l. with the blade being just over 10 inches. I made the damascus and forged the blade. I also forged and shaped the wrought iron guard. The curly maple, what can I say, that stuff just speaks for itself! I love it. This knife was deceptively light and quick for a large knife. I would've liked to have kept it for myself, but then again, I think I must say that about every one that I make! lol
I will be at the Montana show next month. If you are going to be up this way, be sure to stop by my table and introduce yourself, 'cause I always like to meet fellow forumites.
Oh, I should have my new website ready for viewing in the next day or two, so if you like my work, check back here in a little while and I'll post the url. You can also see some of my work at BladeGallery.com
Thanks again, guys.

Welcome to the Cantina. You do beautiful work. Don't be a stranger and stop in here now and again. Did you ever see one of these HI khuks up close? Being a maker yourself, I am sure you could appreciate them in ways us users can't.
