I'm wanting a knife for "woods walking" and survival should the need arise.I REALLY like the looks of the Bushcraft but the bushmaster looks great to! I can't afford both, and the different grinds and picking a steel is a little confusing also.Of course edge holding is priority for me,ease of sharpening, really don't plan on striking my ferro with the knife but I guess that's a nice option.Since getting one of these without "playing"with one first makes it hard to decide.Fit is important to me,don't want to use the knife for a few minutes and want to put it down because it uncomfortable to use.Dan,I see you can custom fit to a customer...how many really do this and does it really make a difference?I followed the threads on the bushcraft for a while and it seemed there were a LOT of options..I'd hate to order one and get it and then see a option I wish I had got! Sorry for the long post just wanted to ask these things....:D

I went to the web site and it did answer some of my questions.DUH...should have done that first.:rolleyes:How would one sharpen the convex edge in the field and which would be better for a survival type knife..scandi or convex? I'm thinking building traps, cutting firewood(shave sticks)cleaning game and fish ect.I really love the idea of having a knife made to my specs that's fits ME.:D

Ask, and your request shall be granted. :D :D

If you don't mind...let's have an "open discussion" about what tasks you want your knife to do....your sharpening desires...your storage desires....maintenance....edge holding, etc.

The more we can chat it out...the closer we'll get to your ideal knife.

Here's what I've got so far:

General outdoors use (firebuilding, light camp duty)
Light enough to carry easily
Thin enough to dress game/fish
Easy to sharpen (including field sharpening)

I've taken hand measurements on hundreds of customers over the years...and have found that the 2 that matter the most are the width of your palm (not including thumb) and the "diameter of the broomstick" you can mostly easily wrap your fingers around.

That's really all I need in order to customize it to your hand.

My knife patterns are generally ergonomic anyway...I build that into the design. But can easily be customized to fit a certain hand - just need to ask first. ;)

Questions to answer:

1 - How do you feel about stainless steels? willing to maintain a carbon steel? or prefer low-maintenance?

2 - Post your hand measurements (as stated above) and I can tell you what will suit your hand better

3 - What blade length? (given what you posted above, I think you need 4-5" of blade)

4 - What thickness? (I would recommend 1/8-5/32" for lighter carry, 3/16" for toughness)

5 - what preferences on handle material? (natural or synthetic)

Like I said, I'm sure we can narrow down your options...it's not a bother to answer the questions...something I enjoy.

Thanks for the post!

Dan
