I picked this one up recently from the good people at Knifeart. I'm generally into larger blades, and that is what Fitch is more known for, but this one really caught my eye and I'm glad I went for it. Feels really great in the hand, and fit and finish are beyond reproach. This is my second knife by this maker, and it sure won't be my last.

Ok, Roger, ya gotta be much more specific about this knife. Specs; size? I love it. Looks like a boot bowie to me. I have never seen this particular model from John. Typical Fitch; gotta have one!

Sure Danbo,

That's a 3 3/4 inch blade of forged 1084 carbon steel. OAL is 8 1/2". Guard is file-worked nickel silver and scales are obviously stag.

If you check out the June 2002 Blade Magazine (Wesley Snipes on cover) you'll see a feature article entitled "Compact, Tactical, Forged and Affordable" wherein the author discusses something of a trend in short forged blades. This Fitch knife (or its twin, I swear the pattern in the stag is identical ) as well as some very desireable pieces by Fisk, Dean, Flournoy etc. are pictured.

I gotta say, I get no less enjoyment out of this knife than from a big Bowie, and as a group these little ones are a lot more affordable. True, you can't fell a small tree with a single blow (kinda frowned on in downtown Toronto anyway) but I can still see why they are becoming popular. They're pretty portable.

Fitch doesn't seem to mind making them either, he's quoted in the article as follows: "They're not as hard to make, there's not as much knife to build, there's less to forge, less to grind and less to heat treat." He does make it clear that his personal preference is for big Bowies, though.

Cheers,

Roger

That's beautiful! Perfect size and very friendly looking.

That was my favorite article in the magazine. Nice to see it up close! Fisk's iteration was my favorite.

Fantastic looking knife. Just like the one in Blade. I really like these new small personal tacticals and this is one of the nicest I have seen. What beautiful stag and excellent quality grinds.

Get knives from John now, before his prices goes way up. They will.

That little knife is HOT!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what Mr. Fitch brings to Atlanta.

Woooow, this "little" Fitch is just great....
This article in BLADE was really good (some of the best I have read recently). This article also brought me to a decision... I have ordered from Terry Primos a little forged one myself!
In the last few weeks I was jumping between a new custom folder or a custom fixed blade.... well, see above:D
But now.....waiting, waiting, waiting!
