I recently aquired a "mega folder" to end all mega folders. It's "a one-of-a-kind" Pat Crawford giant Kasper Folding Fighter hand made by Pat awhile back. It's got a 6 1/4" long, 1/4" thick beautiful satin finished, razor sharp ATS-34 blade and is 14" overall. Double Titanium bolsters and double Titanium liners and beautiful fileworked, (can't see in photo), full backspacer. Absolute rock solid lockup. This thing is a tank! 1 1/2" beautiful Micarta scales and measures almost 2 1/2" wide closed yet is only 9/16" thick! I have held and owned quite a few Crawford KFF's and I have to say the quality and workmanship on this monster tops them all! Pat did an incredible job on this thing and it looks like it's one of his showpieces that he did just to say he could do it! I am a lover of mega folders and have all the production models AND a bowie bladed Darrel Ralph Mad Max. They pale in comparison with this monster. Next stop, a bowie bladed Gibbs model Mad Max! Sorry, the photo's not the greatest but it'll give you some idea just how big this thing is. You really have to heft this thing and see it in person to appreciate it's quality and absolute top notch construction.

LOVE IT Gene! I thought about it myself but waited too late. I currently have two Crawfords, a Covert with ironwood handles and a KFF with stag overlays. Both lock up like a vault! How about posting the mega Kasper beside the MADD MAXX. That will give be a better idea. Thanks for posting it.

Hey Gene! Thanks for sharing a pic of that bad boy with us. Just don't make the Madd Maxx jealous

I'm going to try to get a picture of it up with my Mad Max and maybe say a Spyder Military or something. It'll take me a few days.

Art,
Thanks. Yeah, Pat gave me a great deal on it. I couldn't pass this one up. Your KFF with stag sounds great!

Dex,
NO WAY! My Mad Max gets real jealous and is oh so mean!

Big is good - I love big.

Don't let anyone confuse you -

SIZE DOES MATTER

In agreeance with Billy Lewis and the gang; That is one awesome folder! An I thought MY custom Crawford Kasper folder was huge...

Beauty! Since I like the CRKT KFF so much, am sure that a well-made custom in same pattern must be awe-inspiring. That is for the normal sized examples. This knife is by no means normal.

Can you tell us how much it weighs? And how much tailoring was to make pocket room for it? Also, can it be effectively used with one hand, or is it more a 2-handed knife?

Thanks,

I love my own Crawford KFF. But that mega KFF is awesome looking. I wonder though, whether a linerlock, as well built as they are by the Crawfords, can take the additional stress of a mega blade. Any thoughts on that, Gene?

Hi Gents,
To answer Bugs questions first, I have small hands for my size and it is usable one handed albeit it would be really nice for someone with really large hands due to the width of this monster. It can be used two handed of course. The large finger groove incorporated into the KFF design though makes it pretty stable even being as huge as it is. I don't have a scale but I would guess it weighs 12-14 ozs. Due to the fact it is only, (for it's size), 9/16" thick it fits very well in the back pocket of jeans and rides fairly comfortable. I tried it with a pair of carpenter's jeans I have and it disappeared in the front or back pockets. It has no pocket clip though, so a canted leather holster of some sort would be ideal for carry.
sing, believe it or not I gave it the "spine whack" test and it passed with flying colors. Pat really overbuilt this thing and like I said, lockup is solid. I also will admit to a few dozen "flick" openings and man is it smooth and fast! Pat really dialed in the perfect blade pivot tension on it. It is such an easy, smooth opener though, that flicking it open is unnecessary. Also, Pat had to machine a special "one off" thumb stud for this thing. It is BIG!

Gene,

Thanks for the answer. I think the Crawfords make some of more reliable linerlocks that I have held. If you plan on using this, tell us how it holds up with time.

No Pocket clip!

Better get that sheath made. With that thing shifting around in your pocket, some folks may get the wrong idea...

Gene, that is a monster you have there. Very nice. I would quickly send it to Gary Grayley and let him make an awesome sheath for it

I agree with NC about that sheath from G2. From what I have seen on his site, the man is an artist!

Sing, In the past couple of years I think the Crawford locks have improved tremendously . It looks like Pat and Wes have refined their mechanism from earlier locks. By this I mean that they have nested the liner lock making it stronger ans also use three pins to hold it in place. The locks made from the liners themselves have also improved. I have bought and sold several Crawfords in the past year. EVERY one of them had perfect lockup with the liner covering the left side of the blade tang. Another improvement I noticed is the tang has a concave plane where the liner meets it. This will make the lock last and last and last! Love them Crawford folders!
