The last couple of deals I have made with other forumites have been for supposedly new knives. When they have arrived, they were worn and scratched. A very expensive custom knife that was supposed to be new had a blade that had the edge rolled and was generally as dull as a butterknife. I will not name names because we are trying to work things amicably. But I wanted to get this in public discussion as a reminder to all of us(me included). We need to be honest with each
other, because in the long run, misrepresentation hurts everyone.
Beginning now,I will ask for a 3 day right to return any knife purchased from the forum.
By the same token,I offer the same right to anyone who buys a knife from me.
I would like to ask that you all consider this policy as a standard policy for those using the forums to buy or sell.
I welcome comments and opinions, the goal being to make this place as fun and comfortable to do the business of pleasure on as possible.

That is definitely a reasonable consideration. I have been fortunate enough to have very good luck buying, selling, and trading here. After a few great transactions, we start to take for granted they will all be like that. I don't know if it already exists, but perhaps a written code of ethics that should be read and aknowledged (I know it is not enforceable) upon registration in these forums. At least an individual cannot plead ignorance to the accepted guidelines established by the forumites. On the good side, these forums are definitely self-policing, and habitual scammers are quickly identified and ostracized. Unfortunately, one or more of us pays the price before that happens. I will always accept a knife back with no questions asked. And thanks to the wonders of modern technology, my digital camera is hi-res proof as to the condition of my knives, when I send one to someone else.

Hey, David. I am sorry to hear of your problem. The very first knife that I sold on the forums I described as "like new" because it seemed so to my eye, but I am not a collector and I had never carried it nor sharpened it. The buyer noticed a small croack in the micarta scale (it was an old Blackjack Mamba). I offered him a lightweight Mamba in addition as an apology, and I believe he was happy with the deal. I learned a lesson, however. I now go over any knife that I put up for sale and describe it in minute detail, listing all possible flaws that I can see. But to say something that has been used and abused, as you describe them, is "new", that is inexcusable.

David,

Sorry to hear that. I always try to describe things as well as I can. On a couple of instances I checked a knife out again before I sent it (it had been sitting around for a few months and I hadn't looked at it recently), and I found some slight imperfections in it. On those instances I contact the other party ASAP and tell about my mistake. I knock off $ for the flaws, or they can back out - so far the people have taken the lower $ and have been happy with the product since they were going to use it anyway.

Each person has their own definition of the condition of the product they are selling. It is hard to describe used knives at time: I rather say it is WORSE than it is than better than it is.

To my knowledge, I haven't SOLD a knife to some one that wasn't happy with it. I would hope that if some one felt it wasn't worth 'x' that they would tell me, too.

Some of the production knives come with flaws right out of the box.

I have had some like this, and it can be annoying to send it back to where you purchased it for a better one.

I hope you are able to come to an agreement - keep us updated. The seller should take the knife back. I have had one instance where I purchased a custom knife that I had problems with, but that got resolved.

A right of refusal should always be a part of any commerce you do over this internet.Had a knife I bought a week or so ago,and it wasn'tas ststed.E/mailed the person and he agreed with me.The price of the knife was re-negotiated.All is well.Anyone you deal with on the forums should abide by the return policy.IMHO
