A new oddball?

Buck just used a 309 stamped blade when they made the 310. I have one just like it and it came in the little wooden box with the slide top. I was disappointed to see the 309 blade on the 310...

As the esteemed gentlemen above have stated correctly, it's a 310 Whittler. There is a Whittler 310 History on the BCCI website, if you are a member, that discusses all things 310. These have not been carried in the Buck catalog for several years, first offered by SMKWs, then Buck and now only by Bass Pro.

For the record there are a couple of other older 300s that have odd blades also. Most often found is a 301 or a 319 with opposite blades. You know how it goes, only a hundred or so liners and scales to finish out production order and darn we are out of blades. Oh well these will work just fine.

if you have um-teen 309s and were looking for a 310, getting another that says 309 is disapointing. As for you Bg, What can be said...interesting, is a good word.

I try to present unique viewpoints.

:)

I guess I can understand your disappointment with the wrong blade.....but it would be mitigated by having an interesting and unusual knife......especially in that cool wood box!

Wait, so are you saying that Bass Pro still offers this model?

Update: Sure enough, they are right there on the Bass Pro website. I might have to give that one a look see.

Anyone wants a 310 stamped blade will have to buy from the past Buck catalog sales era to be sure. Business is business on this one. BP stills wants to sell them after Buck dropped model from its catalog. Knife is basically a 309 with a coping blade added. The 309 is still made by Buck so if BP finds it OK, its cheaper to put in the blade you are already stamping. Right or wrong is for the individual to decide. I just collect what they make. The wooden boxes are made by contractor so they can be ordered for BPs order number. This is all just bits and pieces I have picked up talking about the knife business with folks. After all is said its still a business to make money.

Anyway if you want a new three blade Whittler model from BP it will come with a 309 stamped clip.
