I was just curious, why is it that supposedly some of the big shot criminals out there have dangerous, deadly, illegal weapons that are bested suited for WWIII, so they outlaw big knives ? Sorry if this question sounds stupid or anything, but since I'm not from there maybe there's something about the laws and their origins I don't know about, and it kind of confuses me.

I have lived in California all my life and have no idea what you are talking about. Are you one of those people that still believes that the LA riots have consumed the entire state and are STILL active? :p Honestly though, I have no clue what you are referencing, but I think you might be a little absorbed in stereotypes. Also, what about big knives? You can carry some pretty big knives here, as long as they aren't concealed.

Ive seen a few movies and documentaries about violent criminals in LA, and they always have automatic assault rifles, AKs, Uzis, that kind of thing, not ur average hunting store hardware, stuff ud use to go to war. And on the big knives, I thought that it was the law there that u cant have a blade more than 2 or 3 inches long or something, and if u do its a big time felony or something (i dont know the exact laws since im not from there, but supposedly u can get in more trouble for an illegal knife than an illegal gun, which to me doesnt really make sense) but like I said, I dont know since Im not from there.

I don't think we have any more violent crime proportional to our population than many states. And the knife thing is totally wrong. Our knife laws are actually quite good. No limit on folders and no limit on fixed as long as the are not concealed. Now in various counties the rules may change. I don't know where you live, but you have to remember that CA is very large compared to most states, things can and do vary widely.

Outlaw big knives?
If you can fold up and put a 8"bladed folder in your pocket, it's legal... :D
I'm not sure we've seen any WWIII weapons anywhere.

 If I see Robert de Niro, Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore running down the street, wearing suits and hefting assault rifles and dufflebags............... :p :p

It's BS. Something like <5% of gun crimes are committed with "assault weapons", never mind automatic weapons. This is nationally but I highly doubt it is much different in LA.

The media and politicians don't let the facts get in their way though.

Actually, I believe that the law has changed in recent years in regard to folders. You can carry any length folder 'concealed', as long as the blade has a 'detent' in it that provides resistance to opening. It doesn't matter how much 'resistance' there is, just that their is some.
In other words, a folding knife with a 3" blade that flops open with no resistance to opening built into the mechanism is illegal. A folding knife with an 8" blade that has resistance to opening (a 'detent') built into the mechanism is legal to carry concealed.
At least that is my understanding of how the law is currently interpretated, but IANAL.

And the truth of the matter is, that if one checks, the knife and gun 'carry' laws out here in the Golden State are a lot better than those of many other states in the union.

What I meant to say was "no limit on folding knife length. No limit on fixed blade length as long as they aren't concealed." If you want current knife law, I try to maintain a law pamphlet for California and my surrounding counties Here.
