i am saving hard out for a shadow 3 or 4, ( i am a full time uni student, also an art teacher and a hotel waiter...), the problem i have now is that i wanta a everyday carrying knife, mainly for selfdefence and some tiny little utility jobs, should i get the shadow 3 or 4??

i like the size of shadow 3 (4inches) but i am worry about the size of the handle been too short and the overall size of the knife might make it look like a butter knife, would shadow 4 be too big for everyday carrying? please help me to choose one!!

p.s. if anyone got the photo of people holding the 2 knives i metioned, please sent them to me: ch@paradise.net.nz

and when can i see a chris reeve knife in new zealand???????

thanx a lot

If it helps at all...

I have the Shadow III. If I open my large Sebenza and lay the Shadow III next to it, they are almost exactly the same length overall. I had a picture at one time, I'll have to look for it.

I got the Shadow III because I wanted a fixed blade knife that I could carry day to day.

There may not be much of a length difference between the blade of the III and IV which could fool you, but the IV is a big knife. Mostly because the IV has a full handle to grip onto. To carry the Shadow IV would be like wearing a Buck 119 around, to big for day to day.

PS...May pay off to look around, I got my Shadow III NIB at a knife show for $140

Take care

You might look at the Mountaineer I as well. I've become quite smitten with mine as an everday carry, fixed-blade alternative to a large folder. It's a very handy size (maybe the same size as the aforementioned Shadow, I don't know offhand), and is easy to put on and off your belt via the foldover snap belt loop. Very utilitarian design too.

Self defense!? Get a Sig P220! Nice carry knife? Get a large sebenza! Are you going to run around with a Shadow III on your belt all the time? Probably not. Get a Sebenza, you'll always have it with you....
