Are there any plans for sometime in the future to come out with a Spyderco book? I don't mean a book-sized reprinting of a catalog, but an actual book, somewhat like Buck Knives has out, only for Spyderco? It could show the story of Spyderco, Sal and his wife Gail's struggles to make the company what it is today. How the Sharpmaker, and the various models of knives came to be designed. True recountings of Spyderco knives being used in life-saving situations. Explaining a bit about knife testing, steels, custom collaborations, etc., etc.
And though Spyderco is an always-evolving company, when the book becomes outdated, simply come out with a volume 2!
Perhaps the book, if you make one, could be sold in regular stores, or even in specialty (cutlery, gun) stores. I know it maybe an expensive undertaking, but I'd be interested!

I'm a history professor at a university. If Sal would make his records available, I would really enjoy working on such a project!

Wonderful idea! An American success story where an excellent idea and a commitment to quality win the day. One for me and ?? for gifts.... Is this for real? I sure hope so.

I saw something about the book the other day, but now I can't find it. I think the title has (will have) "integrity" in it.

nuts, another knife accesory i cant live without.

A book has been written and it currently being edited for printing in January Y2K.

The book has been written by Ken Delavigne and was more than two years in the making.

I'll see if I can get Ken to participate.

Hi ALL,

SAL - Please tell us MORE info about the book, table of contents - anything will be appreciated.

Thanks

There is indeed a book in the works. As Sal said, I'm the author. The publisher is Paladin Press. I chose a title for it, but Paladin and I are working on the final version.

The book will cover most of the items speculated about in the posts above, including a detailed chapter on technological frontiers plus an extensive bibliography.

This book could not have been written without the long-term help of Sal, Gail and the Spyderco crew, and I take this opportunity to thank them publicly for it.

I can't resist posting a reply... I've had the pleasure of knowing Ken Delavigne personally these last few years while he was working on the book, and am probably the most eager to get a copy! Just based on Ken's other books and writings, I anticipate it will be as informative as it is fun to read. Frankly, when I met Ken I hadn't worn a knife in over ten years. Ken's love for and knowledge of knives was addictive, and I now own eight! (mostly SpyderCo of course!)

I'll second the last post about Ken...

I first met Ken back in 1987 when he was teaching Quality courses at IBM's corporate training-center.

I'm also a Spyderco "zealot"-- I rave about them to my friends and give them as gifts :-)

With the combination of Ken's scholarship and Spyderco quality, I'm really looking forward to this book!
