Who else thinks that a waved Chinook would be the sweetest thing ever? I'm not a huge fan of the chinook as it is, but if it were waved I think it might be the best SD spyderco there is.
What do you think?

I think it would depend on how they waved it. I wouldn't be for the endura wave style as it reduced the blade strength by approx 20%-30%. It doesn't bother me that the endura wave was weaker, but I want my Chinook to be as strong as possible. Maybe a pickle style wave would be in order.

Er, I've never handled one and only seen pics of it so I could be wrong BUT with the way the blade point is (slightly swept-up?), could there be a chance of injuring yourself if it was opened with a wave feature?

Again, I could be wrong. Just thinking out loud here.

Hey untamed, I don't think the tip would matter as it would already be out of the pocket when the wave (which would be near the spydie hole) caught on the edge of the pocket and opened the knife. You might be right, but in my mind's eye I don't see how it would be a problem. ;)

It'd be a pretty big problem if the wave activated before the blade cleared the pocket. That happened to me once with a zip-tied spydie kerambit:eek: luckily I only trashed my pocket and not my leg!

I don't know why a waved chinook would be any more likely to open in your pocket than the other waved knives. A zip-tied knive, however, I can see being more likely to open, as it seems more likely to catch on your clothing.
If the wave were made by cutting into the spyder hole, it wouldn't make the blade any weaker because the width of the blade would be exactly what it is just ahead of the hole. Or if it were done at the factory, a wave could be added in front of the hole. I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about later.

IIRC the factory waved Endura was made to make a waved model without compromising the strength of the blade as happened by removing part of the metal around the hole.
Personally I would like to see a waved version of the Manix 80 which should be not too difficult to do. I better not try to do it myself though. A waved Endura 4 with G-10 handles would be nice as well and then there is still the Pickle to come.
