advanced tech tiger model

i was thinking of buying the black one from knifezilla and wondered how the qualty compared of that of benchmade's

The quality is very good on the SWAT model.., and if you search the threads you'll find good reviews by Tony and Don Rearic not long ago...

Personally I don't like the blade profile as much as the new BM's..., (especailly the swedge).., but many really love the knife because they like 5" models.

I don't know if you have seen the "other" SWAT Balisong...with all Brass handles, but it is another option they have (very heavy, over 10 ounces I think?).., but both models are smooth and swing well.

Have fun...see ya :)

They are pretty ugly, I wouldn't be caught with one unless it was the new Sept 11 comemoritive SWAT. Look up red 911 swat in a search and get that one if you insist on getting a SWAT, otherwise, all the BM balis are great, and the tachyon is supposed to be good too, although I am boycotting it right now.

why are you boycotting it? because of all the ruckous around it? i can't blame ya..

advanced tech & swat = the same?

I'll have to second ixpfah's question... why boycott the tachyon?

The few very insigificant problems that Mr. Turber has run across have all been made public, discussed and rectified. As a business practice, this kind of honesty and commitment to customers is a rarity and something I'd like to see more often. If BM were to encouter problems like these, it would more likely be "swept under a rug" than aired out on forums (like the huge batch of loose tang pins on 42's). When the cash flow is right, I'll be buying one, if only on pricipal alone. MT is the kind of company you WANT to do business with. I hope you reconsider your boycott, because I hate to see you miss out on such a wonderful knife. And I'd hate for Mike to lose a customer.

I'll probably get a Tachyon eventually, it's just that with all the stuff going on I don't really want to drop the cash and have to sit and wait for the two toned blade. Also, I don't have a torx kit so what happens if I get a manila tachyon?

I know that MT and Mike have done a pretty good job at meeting their release date on this but since when is a release date something so arbitrary. I'm in the engineering business, or will be if/when I graduate, and to us, if we make a promise to a customer, we better be on time or risk losing business. I guess if you have such a great product like the Tachyon the demand is high enough that no matter what happens you will always have people wanting them.

There just seems to be a lot of silly stuff going on with the release of this hot new knife and I'd rather wait until all of the kinks get worked out.

Oh yeah, they are marking the price up in 2002, that's why I started boycotting, now I remember. Please disregard all that other stuff and the top of my post!

I've done a few internships in divisions of the united technology corporation (carrier, otis, prat&whitney, etc.) Carrier in particular, manufacturing engineering for both compressors and container refrigeration units. Deadlines get pushed back alot, products get realeased when they aren't ready sometimes if they don't, and that would be expensive. Release dates aren't arbitrary, but in that industry, they push them back really far and work slow cause they don't want to realease a shody product. I think the tachyon came out pretty quick (less than a year from design to production!) The initial goal was fall 2001, and my calander seems to think it's fall of 2001. I don't mean to be sarcastic, but this project has gone very smoothly, and by all accounts, there are no problems with the knife. If you consider some of them being manilla latched a problem, well, then that's personal preference, but it is user adjustable, and most knife knuts own a few torx drivers, though 6 is admitedly not the most common. Also this is not an everyday knife. It is built to high tolerances, like all balisongs need to be, and out of expensive materials, and is not the only project on Mike Turber's plate. I must say I'm impressed with the whole process and eagerly await my knife.
