After a year of owning the Izula I still get impressed.

So I get back home after running and decided to take a short hike and practice making some traps, the figure four was my main goal. So I grab the Izula and a Horton Knives EDC (fixed blade, thick stock, and convex edge. About 8 1/2 OAL and 4 inch blade). So I hike up to one of my favorite spots, a nice little creek in the woods that as it flows down the mountain it creates a fews nice lookin' waterfalls. So I follow the creek for a little ways and I find an almost dead tree and with some nice thick low branches. So I pulled out the bigger knife and chop of a branch and after snapping the twigs off I pulled the Izula out to do the small work like the notches. After finishing a notch I decided to try and baton a little with the Izula, it normally takes a lot to impress me but the ease of batoning with the Izula was pretty impressive. 2 inch thick branches? No problem at all, green wood? Easily went through it. Nearly dead young tree? just hit it a little harder and a couple more times.

Sorry no pics, I don't have a camera and when I need one I borrow from my twin, and I didn't really plan to go hiking or practice trap making or batoning, it just happened. On the plus side on the way out of the woods while following the creek back down, since I failed to get someone a birthday card, I collected all kinds of good lookin' flowers and threw together a bo-kay (I know spelling is way off) :D put the flowers in a water bottle I cut in half, and wrote on a piece of paper, "Who needs any stinkin' B-day cards when you got good smelling flowers". So today was a good day, especially to be a Monday

(If anyone managed to read all that I tip my hat to you, when I see large posts I just automatically glance over 'em and get the basic gist of the post)

Yeah close save, :D not as good of a story as my Mother's Day card, but I'm not derailing this thread in the third post ;).

Unplanned hiking, trapping and batoning is the best kind. Unless it means you're lost.:D

I'm still impressed too. It's a perfectly executed knife. Great price and a very versatile product - I can use it around the house, out in public, or in the woods.

It's the first knife I recommend to a non-knife person that asks me for a good hiking/EDC knife.

No camera huh? You could always illustrate your adventures by making images via MS Paint :D. As for the Izula, I am still debating if it's gonna be my first RAT, but it's nice hearing more good things about it.

:D Great until I finished the notches on one or two sticks and I decided to use a thick stick to use to baton the izula, after a while I realized what time it was and decided not to risk setting it up and being late for a birthday party and come in with no card. So as I hiked back I collected all kinds of flowers to make do, hopefully this Sunday or Saturday depending on what time I get home, I'll go and try again.

So Figure 4-- 1 & hwpaintballer-- 0

This weekend I may even bum a camera.

When I first got my interest peaked in RAT, I went for the RC-4. Thats what I came looking for and found it. Got myself an account with this forum and started reading all the fanfair about something called an Izula. So I look it up and at first glance it was like, "What would one do with a dinky little toy knife like that?". Well time goes on and I had to find out for myself what all the fuss was so I ordered on up. I then found the answer to my original question.

You can do just about anything you want to do with the Izula. Clean your nails, Gut a Deer, Carve a Steak. Split wood.. the list goes on.. I need about 3 more so I can tactically keep one at places where life happens... Kitchen, Shop, Glove Box, Go Bag... -Oh wait, thats 4...

Awesome Knife. Glad there's other folks out there in the outdoors having fun with theirs.

PS, Use number 10,468 must now be: "Cutting Flowers to Save your Butt in times of a Memory Malfunction Emergency"

Well Done.

IF you're able to bum the camera, make sure that we see the figure four both before and after along with the results. Are you planning on building a natural funnel to guide the critters into the trap or just build it on a trail?

I'm just going to find a nice little open spot and a big rock, then practice putting it up, once I'm done smashing me fingers trying to get it set up I'll take it back down, I don't want to leave it up.
