I have been considering the purchase of an AG Russell FeatherLite One Hand Knife for use around the office. I like the fact that it seems like it would not "weigh down" my Dockers. Since I have not had an opportunity to handle one of these knives firsthand, what can anyone tell me about the locking mechanism? Also, is the pivot adjustable? Any advice would be welcome. I have ordered items from AG Russell in the past and I know they stand by their warranty.

Thanks,

Steve

I have not handled the FeatherLite model, but I will tell you what I know about the "Original" 1HK I own. The locking mechanism is reliable quite reliable and moderately tough. I can't see it coming unlocked by accident.

The pivot on mine is easy to adjust. The spring tension is not adjustable (at least not without a metal file).

I like the 1HK design! It is clever, simple, and efficient. My only gripe is that I'm a steel snob and wish I could get a full sized "Original" in something better than AUS-8.

I also have one of the original all stainless models, the pivot pin is not supposed to be adjustable. The screw is permanately locktighted, and even after cutting slots into the screw to get a bigger screw driver, I still couldn't loosen it.

After posting a thread on how to break the thread lock, I was given lots of good advice, still haven't tried it though.

As far as quality knives, they rank right up there with BM or Spyders. Carried mine for 10 years on and off, actually before wallet knives became available that was my wallet knife,( on account of how thin and strong they are).

As testimony to how good they are and how easy the lock is to operate, just look in A.G. Russells catalog, and you'll see taht he has a hard time keeping up with the demand. If you have the extra money go for the all steel version, you won't be sorry.

I have been using A.G.Russell's featherlite as my EDC since he first offered them for sale. As a matter of fact 4 other people in my office and I ordered them together years ago. They are so light that you don't even know you are carring it. The lockup is pretty strong but not the strongest that I have used. No the pivot is not adjustable. For the price it is one hell of a knife.
Good Collecting !

I had a one hand knife by AG since 1995. I used it for EDC and just loved it. I lost it last week and I am sick. Now I am undecided about what my next EDC will be.

Based upon the responses I have recieved, and my respect for A.G. Russell's guarantee policy, I've decided to give the One Hand Knife a shot. Many thanks to those who took the time to help me out!
