What ever was one these for Handle materials REALLY STINKS!

Dan stunk up the shop all afternoon when he cut this stuff off!! :barf:

Yep....nice to have been able to blame that smell on the buffalo horn....

Ted - yes, there are some K-BOARs there somewhere...two of them, I think.

So you grind down and put on a hidden tang handle???

I'm doing one too, and the HELLA NOT FLAT tang is giving me fits.

yeah...there's a bit of a trick to it. Gotta square up the tang in all 3 dimensions...but leave enough to be strong...but take off just enough to allow for a good weld line.

I once started in on a full tang AK Bowie rehandle....I took one look down the tang and changed my mind immediately! At the very least...if someone decided they had to have full tang...I could weld on a "U" plate to this tang...then grind it flat - much easier!

The other thing you can't see in the pic is that all four tangs are totally different...even though I tried my best to "standardize" it...the knives are all quite different...different angles, thicknesses, lengths, pin placement and so on.

Ahhhh....Nepal Ho! :D

Good to know. Its been sitting for a while and every once in a while I take it down and groan over it.

one thing I wished I had done at Blade....Andy, was to come over to your place, hang out...and pass along a few hard-earned tips/tricks that are best done "in person"....:(

Next time for sure!

And, of course, you are always welcome here in the shop. Bring a few projects to knock out.

Heh--cool! I think I'm going to start myself a little "AK Bowie Progress" pic folder here...

By next year, this project will be finished ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=492462 ) and I'll be better equipped to take you up on this offer. Plus, I'll have room for you and the family to spend the night if you want to...
