My friend Alan sent these photos to me today, thought I'd show it to the rest of BladeForums. :) Great looking knife! :) Wish I could afford one, but he's also got a 2 year backorder. :(

Well since its on its way to its new owner I wont tell ya too much since he hasnt even had a chance to play with it yet.:)

its a about a 3 inch blade of talonite (pain to finish that smooth!)

Titanium liners, bolsters, and clip

Carbon Fiber handles

All stainless hardware 24K gold plated

Brass decorative studs with gold also...

Fun to make except for that damn clip!!! Had me cussing like a sailor on multiple occasions...:)

You should be seeing more of this style from me, its truly the knid of folder i want to make, not what everyone wants to purchase, but stylish just the same...

Thanks for the kind comments! I love to hear what everyone thinks of this off the wall stuff...

Wow Alan, you did a beautiful job on that knife. I don't think i have ever seen Talonite look that good. The grinds are spectacular. That handle is a wonder as well. I love the anodizing. An all around great knife.

Alan,

WOW, Fresh,Unique, DIFFERENT, are the first words that come to mind. Very NICE Alan!!

Awesome looking blade!!! I've seen the pics before as I know who its in transit too :p

Man, I just got this baby in the mail a few minutes ago and was fixing to start a thread about it and here it is already. Thanks for working with me on this knife Alan, I am enjoying it. I don't know how you polished this talonite but it looks great! This knife will be set aside for Sunday church carry :) The pics look great, too bad I can't take any that good :D Thanks again Alan for this beauty! I can't wait to show her off.

I forgot to mention that this knife's action is very smooth and that blade is way too sharp ;) I love everything about it Alan, keep up the great work!

Michael, Hope you like that one as much as the wife likes the one I got for her.

Alan, the wife won't let near the knife. Keeps it in her purse or display case. Guess I'll just have to get another one. :D

Great looking knife Alan! I really like the domed pins in the backspacer. Everything flows together real nice. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see the finished product. That curly maple background looks familiar.

Why are my knives almost always confiscated by women? I have had this problem for varying customers.. "Its a great knife, but my Wife wont let me have it back", "she confiscated it and won't let me \have it"...

The knife that was given away at the South Easter Custom Knife Show in Winston Salem last year was the first of this style knife i made. It made one person very happy and one person very angry... A name was picked and a woman won it, she was very happy as well as her husband, until she told him it was HER ticket and SHE was keeping the knife... he was NOT very happy about that...

So, what is it with Women and my knives???

Do they excrete some kind of hormone, pheremone, Musk???? I just dont get it...:)

NC Blades, better watch that knife bud, if the wife likes it it may be your Sunday dress carry knife and her Monday through Friday knife.:)

Thanks for all the kind words guys!!!!

Nice Alan..., a beauty.., and thanks for all the pictures...

Sweet knife! Can't wait to see that one in person. Alan loves that anodizer, doesn't he?

I've had a BG-42 stag-handled hunter and a little 52100 necker on order for a while, but maybe I'll just trade those in on one of his folders instead. ;) How does this sound?

  • 3" long, 1/8" thick BG-42 drop point blade with a satin finish and a nice thin edge for maximum slicing. The blade will look like NCBlades' but without the "cutout" in the blade spine.
  • Titanium bolsters with a satin finish so I can take the Scotchbrite pad to it when it gets scratched up
  • Slanted titanium liners
  • Half-length Ti backspacer with a satin finish
  • Carbon fiber scales finished like pyrguy's folder
  • Handle/bolster configuration and pyrguy's folder, but without the hidden pivot screw
  • High-mounted pocket clip for tip-down carry
  • Extra-heavy ball detent for max safety
  • Dual thumb studs
  • A bit thinner overall than NCBlades' new folder

Mine will be a *huge* challenge for him in that it won't have any color to it. He'll have to muster up every ounce of restraint he has to turn out a "grey ****" for me. Whad'ya think, Alan? :D

Grey?...GREY????

:) It could be done....

You would be surprised at how thin that Talonite blade had been ground when it was finished... it was almost a 0 grind but i wanted to make the edge a little more durrable because of chipping on talonite so I beveled it backa little bit... Bg42 reground to a .001 edge before sarpening would cut like the dickens! The satin finish and all is very durable but i still dont think the knife will cut very well with no color on it!!!

I got a question though... what is a slanted liner? Did I miss a major inovation in the folder world or something?

What you desribed would be a very good everyday user, finish and all, i have been thinking about trying a utility finish on Ti by carbide coating it... it would have a slight texture and a different color but you shouldnt be able to scratch it... other than that a nice medium scothbrite leaves a very nice finish IMO...i LOVED NC/s knife with all silver buffed Ti on it... I got a new kinda buffing rouge that takes Ti to a high mirror in seconds so it takes a gorgeous color but it looked equally as striking in silver before all the studs and such were added...but once the gold studs were added it just NEEDED all that color for contrast.:)

If you want something liek that Senator just let me know, it can be done, i got all the materials in stock, but it would be a shame to waste these 2 blades that are just sitting here waiting for handles.:)

Alan...
